Smile Proximity Key Cargo Loading Feature

Sorry if anyone else covered this already but I found a feature on my car that no one told me about. Was reading in the manual about how you can kick your foot under the bumper (whole bunch of specific conditions under which this will work or not) and the trunk will pop. I tried it out with the key in my pocket and low and behold...I no longer have to be jelous of that Ford mini-crossover SUV--swing your foot under there and the trunk opens. I do it just for fun these days when I load my bags in the car at the end of the workday. I probably look like an idiot too, but I thought it was cool.

I've had it happen just by walking behind the car and pop... the trunk opened. But when I want it to happen I can't make it happen.

Yes this is one of the most sophisticated features of any car. I don't know how the internal intelligence algorithms compute the conditions that only allow it to work when you do not need it. It actually knows never to open the trunk when your arms are unavailable for fob or manual opening.

I do it with my car fairly consistently. The audi help video shows a move like pressing the gas pedal. For me a swing left right works... maybe from the 10 times I tried it 2 I did not succeed as I guess did not meet the car's requirements, like engine was running etc.

I've experienced the same. It somehow knows I don't have a free hand and refuses to work when needed.

DITTO - I look like a dog twitching it's leg when you rub it's belly when I am in the parking lot trying to get this stupid feature to work on my car. It works about one in ten times and definitely never when my hands are completely full!

I think that it depends on the year. It came, then went then came back on the 2014's but I'm not sure of the dates.

Not on MY2013 S6 for sure. I have tried to do that so many times knowing it's a standard feature in the 7 but never got it to work so I gave up. Can't afford to do idiot dancing behind the hot car and embarrassing myself.

It doesn't work (just tried it) on my 2015 manufactured in August or September... but my car is a PP, not Prestige. I wonder if that matters?

Just because it doesn't work, doesn't mean that you don't have the feature and besides, the dancing behind the car in SF should not embarrass you.

I meant it's not standard in 2013 S6 since I used to own one though it should be standard in 2014 RS7 but I couldn't get it to work so I stopped trying. I know SF people can be weird but it's embarrassing to dance behind the car in other parts of bay area.

It is standard on '14 RS7s in Canada, but rarely works. Glad to hear that I am not the only one doing "the dance" and looking stupid!

It works for me about 95% of the time on first try (2014 A7).

It didn't work at all at the beginning but the dealer replaced the sensor and it has worked ever since. Initially the service folks didn't even know it was a feature.

Good to know, maybe my sensor was not good so that's why it never worked for me.

Yup - its on the underside of the read bumper cover - a long wire about a 1/4 in diameter. I almost cut the darn thing putting a hitch receiver on my wife’s A6 (that’s another story, but only used for carrying bikes on a small rack). If you crawl underneath the connection for the sensor wire is on the passenger side way up near the bumper. The wire runs almost the entire width of the car.

I have tried and tried on my 14 S6 and have yet to get it to work. If anyone has and wants to record it, I'd be interested to see what we're all doing wrong. I've seen the YouTube Audi has put out but I've mimicked that with no success and my neighbors must think I'm losing it.

Maybe we should nickname it "sex panther." 60% of the time it works every time...

I love the comments! I actually have pretty consistent success with it.

If I get a chance I might try making a quick video for all to laugh at.

BTW - My manual makes it sound like this feature is an integral part of the keyless access system (Audi advanced key?), which seems to be a standard feature and is not listed under the "prestige package add-ons" on my window sticker. So, I don't know if it truly is standard or part of the prestige package.
