    Engine cover

I have been searching all day for it but I'm looking for the cover that goes over the abs and windshield fluid tank and the hydraulic fluid tank that pretty much goes over the whole right of the engine... I'm in desperate need to buy one asap

The cover is not a drop in piece though. It took a bit of fitting and problem solving to get it to sit in place properly. I'm still fussing with it, but it's very close.

The first thing that needs to be trimmed is where the cover contacts the throttle body.

I cut out the corner with a jig saw, hand filed it smooth, and rounded the corner off.

A notch has to be cut near the upper radiator hose, and I was also getting some contact near the windshield washer tank. I cut a 2nd half moon near the windshield washer tank as well as shaved the lower circle of the washer cap down flat on the side. With the cover sitting properly at the bottom, it leaves a 3/4" gap near the firewall. This is not the end of the world, it's not very noticeable unless you're looking for it, but I'll probably try to fit a piece of weather stripping at the upper edge to seal it off.

The last problem was finding a way to make it sit flat. The middle of the cover hits the lower right corner of the ABS pump and acts as a pivot point. I didn't want to drill into the cover if I could avoid it, nor did I want to modify my car in some way that was not reversible. I wanted to be able to remove the cover easily as well. What I came up with was using two bar magnets wrapped in electrical tape and topped with a piece of velcro. The magnets are placed next to the hood shock and hold the top right corner of the cover down to the proper height so it's flush with the hood's weather stripping.

    The end result.

They dropped the price on that cover. I had been eyeing it when it was $89.

In addition to the fitting I talked about in my thread (quoted above), I also had to make a little relief cut for the throttle cable on the TB. Shouldn't be necessary for DBW cars though.

Weren't these available on NA Passats too? ETKA says Euro only but I've seen them on junkyard cars a few times. Or is that a slightly different cover or something?

I've only ever heard of them being on euro passats, seen plenty of passats at the junkyards but never with that cover. Then again I don't think I've ever seen an NA passat either.

NA as in North American, not naturally aspirated. I've even seen one of those on a '01 A4, but that was probably installed later at some point. Sucks that every single one I've seen was broken in some way.

that cover is nice, but you still need to paint your washer reservoir and coolant tank black to "hide" everything, all its really covering is open space, and the power steering reservoir. too bad it doesnt cover all of that and just leave holes for the circular fill caps, that would be hot

I wanted to try a B7 cover but gave in for the tried and tested euro passat cover. My TB was already rotated so I didnt have to trim anything (iirc). No velcro, although not a bad idea, I dont need any extra encouragement for it to stay in place.
