    Is concavity overrated?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Looking around at wheel options.
came across these, and... I don't hate them.
I don't know that I'd pay the asking price or ship them in from Germany (or where ever), but they kinda work.

    to answer your question, no.

with that being said, I do not consider those wheels concave. But as Audibot said, its subjective.

concave wheel with squared tires (like a 255 series on an 8.5-9 inch wheel) = looks good
concave wheel with stretched tires (like a 245 series on a 10 inch wheel) = looks like crap

purely my opinion, but i don't care much for the vdub "stance" look. i think it really cheapens the look of our cars.

I love concavity. But I think it works better with certain styles of wheels than others. But when there's a lack of concavity, I'm okay with a flat faced, recessed/dished wheel. That also looks great. I'm less of a fan of outright flat faced wheels - but to each their own.

The wheels in image you posted makes the wheel area look to busy. You need something more sleek and orginal. Just my opinion.

all opinion, but i need the concavity... and there is a huge difference between a photo and real life. some wheels look much better in photos that real life and others are the exact opposite.

Even though you will mostly find concave wheels on cars that are Stanced out or otherwise not setup for performance (which is fine if you are into that)...I do like the visual look.

If I could find some that also helped with performance (light, helped me get more rubber on the ground, etc.) I would certainly be happy to get some for the right price.

Not cheap..fuckin awesome!!! I love when people try to run fat rubber and lower their car and wonder why they rub...my buddies ask me all the time "u never rub and your lower than me!!" Then they go and slap some 285's on their 9 inch wheels and rip their fenders off. Has happened to this one guy twice.

To each their own and you're welcome to it, but yes, I think that looks cheap and juvenile. Certainly not functional in any way for any kind of performance. If you're going to do that, might as well just do it on a basic A4, why get a performance car and ruin its performance.

But again, just my thoughts, you're welcome to yours.

I do not consider that proper concavity. They almost rise, only to fall 1/3 in. Not a bad look though. I can get with flat, mild/deep concavity and lip for sure. All situational. Super deep looks a bit ghetto to me though.

Niche Milan's are concave and you definitely do not lose performance nor would having concave take away from the vehicles performance

+1, I do not understand people who prioritize looks and make the car perform worse. Square sidewalls are how the manufacture intends the tyre to operate, stretch or bulging really does affect the handling of the car from my experience. But then if everyone felt the same we'd all have the same cars and that'd be boring too haha

concave is overrated. I think everyone wants it, because they can't really have it (on this platform).

Do I like concave? absolutely. Doesn't change the fact it's overrated.

Flat profiles, concave, dish, step lip. All have there place IMO. Just depends on execution.

I dont think it is over rated... the real question should be:

How can you take a spirited drive through the mountains if your S4 has that 'stanced' look? You just can't with the insane amount of camber... lol just my two cents.

As mops pointed out most pics that have been posted here are not concave.

I would consider these below flat. The spokes actually start outward only to finish pretty much where they started.

I don't think the car looks cheap. there was clearly a lot of money spent.

But with the weird fit of the tires and excessive camber in the front, it really looks to me like the owner doesn't know a damn thing about cars.
    sorry.

Honestly, I'm not on here to debate whether your setup is "trashy" or not. I really don't care. The point I was addressing is people saying that having the car slammed means by default it will drive like shit. This video shows that clearly there is an option to "have your cake and eat it too" in terms of performance. But that costs money to do it right. Doesn't mean the person who does the same thing with $400 coilovers isn't doing something idiotic.
