    Suspension cross-reference with Porche

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, with 170k miles, its time for shocks (ya think?)
I've noticed that they're basically impossible to come by unless they're $400.. each.

I've also noticed that they Cayenne shocks appear, physically to be identical. Anyone have any experience with a cross reference of parts?
Can I use the more available, less expensive Porsche component on the Q?

    2008 Q7 3.6
    No air suspension.

    thanks

the Q7 is longer and heavier than the cayenne so many people will claim they are not interchangeable. that being said, i have an aftermarket coilover kit for a cayenne on my Q7 with no problems. if youre considering buying suspension parts anyway, you might consider upgrading to coilovers as well.

What year of Cayenne did you use, what year of Q7 do you have?

I have no interest in upgrading, I'm very happy with the current setup. I do not have the air suspension. This isn't a racer for me, just a work car.

Shocks and struts from a 2010 Cayenne or VW Touareg will bolt right in. Tirerack has good prices on shocks and struts.

they bolt right in but the load/spring rates are likely different.

If I'm not changing the springs, the shock absorber itself shouldn't matter, right?

Just looking at the Bilstein's, the part # they have for the Touareg and Cayenne is the same, however the Q7 is different. The Q7 application shows all Q7's (V6, V8, TDI) without air suspension. The Touareg ones may bolt up but something must be slightly different about them.

Again, the Q7 is longer and heavier than the Toureg and Cayenne. You're not going to find part numbers that apply to all 3 models.

Again, if I'm not changing springs... shocks aren't made differently for weight.. I understand that springs are.

And, for anyone who needs this... Rock Auto... I was able to get all four shock absorbers shipped for about $500.
They're listed as a French part, but the part numbers cross reference flawlessly to US version.
I'll post pics and Part #'s once complete.

not sure if this helps in any way but a long time ago one of my previous q7 i swapped out sway bars and other bits. it turns out a great deal of parts from the v12 q7 and touareg and cayenne are shared despite different engine configurations, weights and options. in the link below you may find some part numbers that may help you out in upgrading certain bits and pieces:

no problem. good luck. this area of the Q7 is very frustrating because of some many different options in the parts catalog and then it gets even hairier when going back and forth between the vw and porsche parts bins.

sunset porsche was the most helpful and informative and coincidentally the most competitively priced for the parts. perhaps reach out to them for some assistance.

Sounds like you have some experience with this car..

Any suggestions on what to check, now that I have the suspension replaced, to get rid of the horrid squeaking noise coming out of the front drivers side?
Bushings? anything typical on this car?

i ever had that issue but i would guess control arm if it is worn.
my experience is in lowering and sway bars.
