Full Red 06E905115E Coilpack and NGK BKR7EIX Spark Plug swap

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This week I replaced 4 coilpacks with red revision 06E-905-115-E and NGK BKR7EIX plugs from Amazon hoping to get better fuel economy, cold start up and maybe an increase in performance too . I haven't had any codes but here are the old parts we replaced. Plugs were at least 40k old if not much more. I will keep a log of my mileage to see if there is an improvement. I also put in new plastic hub rings.

Keep that black revised coil pack as a spare. The other three are good for the B6 boys going for Fsi cp conversion :P

I would gap at 0.032 but iirc 7eix are already at 0.032.

Full Red 06E905115E Coilpack and NGK BKR7EIX Spark Plug swap

I just did that swap a few weeks ago but used NGK (PFR7S8EG) Spark Plugs, gapped to 0.035. Car starts fine, but wondering if I should have gone with NGK BKR7EIX. Not sure the platinum plugs makes that much of a difference for the price.

Jake, what do the tri electrode plugs come pre-gapped with? Also, do you recommend leaving them at preset gaps for stage II cars? Thanks.

They come pre-gapped to .028. I used these while stock, stage 1, stage 2(ish) and stage 3 without issue!

Recently went with Bosch F5DP0R plugs to replace stock plugs with 40,000 or so after reading up on plugs on this site. Didn't want to change every oil change, so didn't go with copper. Cold starts are smooth and they run great.

Those are also a fantastic plug, we use them in our B5 Stage 3 kits! They just cost a bit more, but like you said last a lot longer

These are the ones. I don't like extremely long life plugs. I forget when it's necessary to change them, and they are expensive. These plugs are nickel I believe, not copper, so they last longer. I was having to replace the BKR7E every ~4k due to loss in power or misfires. These have been going for at least 7k without any issue. Might change them out at 10k and see if there's a difference. If not, I'll run the next set 15k.

FYI the F5DP0R are one step colder plugs for cars with basic performance upgrade (chip/intake/exhaust) - k03, k04, etc.

Good post on plugs - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ighlight=spark.

Well if I have any issues with these I can return with prime anytime. Then can try those other ones. Thanks for the heads up.

Meh, the iridium ones you got are great still. I just don't trust something that's supposed to last forever, even though it's being used thousands of times per second during its entire life span at hundreds of degrees. Plus 3 electrode plugs are at least 7k cooler than single electrode plugs.

My wife had a Hyundai Santa Fe that had "100,000 mile plugs". What a fucking joke. She was getting really bad misfires around 70k. Worst part was, you could only remove 3 plugs without removing the intake manifold. Stupid shit took me forever. We are so lucky our plugs are so easy to access. Especially given the amount of times we need to get in there to swap coil packs.

What I really would like to see is JHM get a hold of some of those Okada coils (remember that? ) See if they can prove those things are worth $700 or whatever they are.

Same bullshit in my buddy's Toyota Highlander with the long life plugs and the intake manifold having to come off. And the gasket for the intake manifold is like $20. You're totally right about us being lucky with the easy access. Pop the hood, oh hello coil packs haha.
