26 MPG on the highway with my S6

Yesterday I took a day trip to north New Jersey from Virginia, about 4 hours each way. Once on the highway, the car maintained an average (on the computer, I know) of over 26 MPG, at about 73 MPH, maintained by the RADAR-assisted cruise.

That's a big drop from my Jetta Sportwagen TDi, which gets almost 49 MPG on the same trip. But it seemed pretty impressive to me for a 420 HP+ over 4000 lb, AWD lux mobile.

Great trip until Maryland on I-95S, where two of their state troopers hung around the car in what they thought was my blind spot, ran up on me aggressively, and pointed blinding searchlights into the car presumably to get a better look at me: harassment for no apparent reason.

But I was still pretty happy- the car ran rock solid, and the highway mileage was better than I expected. I'm sure it would be better at 65.

I knew the S6 was fast, luxurious and a great place to be when you have a long trip to make. But I was surprised it was so economical.

wow...i can barely muster 13 mpg (local roads of course).

were you able to get their patrol #'s off the cars? that is some fucked up harassment.

On the long drive I could manage 25'ish MPG in RS7 with occasional sprint to pass other cars.

    Not bad!!

My '14 TDI just did an at-pump MPG of 39.89 with the ACC set between 80-85. This with a full-trunk and back seat moving between El Paso and San Antonio. The DIS indicated 41.9.

i haven't taken the car on anything over 75 miles yet, so I guess i haven't really had highway cruising. (also 914 miles in ~ probably will get better once the engine "settles" - if you believe in that)

I routinely get 25-26 according to the trip computer on my stints between CT and NJ. I drove from CT to Burlington VT and saw 27.1 averaging 75mph. This is a great car that you can drive briskly and still get decent mpg. I am at 21 overall since new with ~25K on the clock.

I can often get 26-28 on trips to my parents in central PA, but recently my MPG has been ~20-21 due to winter gas and 'spirited' driving between Wilmington and Philly.

I too used to regularly get mid 20's on road trips. That all ended once I got the APR tune. It is just too much fun to drive now that I can't sit there with cruise control :)

Well that's almost exactly what my long term computer says. My daily commute is 12 miles each way of small roads with many stop lights. But on longer trips I get mid to upper 20's. Sometimes I miss my tdi, but then I put my foot down and forget about it

I get 25-26 on road trips driving 80 mph in my S-7 but only get 18-20 when driving around town. Of course it goes way down when I'm out hunting.
