Looks like a $3k or so increase to replicate my current package. I guess for that you also get the upgraded MMI and more power. Don't think a lot of 13-15 owners would necessarily feel the need to jump to the newer model unless they really just loved the new design.

Interesting that it does not indicate a sport exhaust in the package as was initially announced. It just says "rear exhaust tailpipe" which implies to me just the four tips vs. the trapezoidal not a true sport exhaust like the RS model's option.

If I remember correctly the base Prem+ and Prestige are slightly less money than last years model. But you don't get the sport diff. To get the sport diff you have to buy the sport package...diff, exhaust and steering. The B and O is $1,000 less for the same equipment. Some of the improvements are added power, new MMI (faster Tegra 30 processor, customized screens, improved graphics), new headlights/tail lights (personal pref), slightly different front/rear bumpers, exhaust tips on non-S cars are now trapezoidal and if I'm not forgetting anything the last bonus is a flat bottom wheel. Audi is also bringing some of the traditional RS colors to the S models.

One item which is almost as big as the added 30 HP is with the DSG. Audi has migrated away from a hydraulic pump to an electric pump in the DSG. This change is supposed to be more efficient for the long term life of the gears with less drag.

The loyalty & conquest programs currently don't. However, I heard they are updating the programs on April 1st to include 2016 models. You would probably be taking delivery before April 1st though, but either way it's a toss up if it will apply to our cars.

The boat with the first 2016 S6's docked at the Davisville, RI port this morning so the first car should be hitting dealerships very shortly. The car I ordered in December that was going to be mine (long story, it was not built to my order correctly) is on that boat.

Might not be a bad idea. Keep an eye on the offers, for all we know they might not update it to include 2016 models until much later. The "Spring of Audi Sales Event" already includes them, but it only applies to leases I believe.

Yes, but only if you don't order the cold weather package. The cold weather packages deletes the new flat bottom steering wheel and reverts to the older style one.

i forgot where i read but one of their engineers make the claim that the heat dissipation is so minimal vs a solid block's structural integrity that they didn't feel the need for it.

btw are all S7/S6 models supposed to come with flat bottom steering wheel unless CWP is ticked off? my 2015 doesn't have CWP and i don't have a flat bottomed wheel :(

My guess is there is some truth to the truth Audi claims on the rotors. But they sure do look better slotted.

As far as the flat bottom wheel goes...2015's did not have them. Not offered from factory. The 2016 S6/S7 does get a FBW if you do not get the CWP.

I don't think any of us have any real details on the sport exhaust and what technology is used or how it's different from the standard exhaust. Other than the quad pipe change there is little info. I think most of us are under the thought that the non sport package has the trapezoidal exhaust tips. That changes when you select sport package on the configurator. Non S models are definitely trapezoidal.

The S models with the sport package probably use a less restrictive system and coincidentally offers a bit more growl. If we can believe the configurator which is vague (and it may not be accurate) something is different with the rear of the system. But it has to be more than just the tips.

Several dyno results of he current S6 show that it was already 450-480hp, so I hope that they did not just revise the number up without making any changes.

this late into the game, do i think it's possible they did some upgrades? sure, but even if they did, the numbers are the numbers. maybe some A/F maps are slightly different - but that just still means pre 16' were hitting those numbers. The only way this be truly an upgrade is if it jumps up a tick a la 470-510. But this is a mid cycle update - aside from the tech updates - it's the last hurrah - i doubt they will put much R&D to make drastic changes.

I don't think they need any more R&D to improve the engine performance. The same or almost the same engine outputs 560hp in RS6/7. Also APR and GIAC can extract 500+hp from the engine with just a software tune.
So, is the +30hp a real gain or just a marketing trick. Did they intentionally lowered the number (but not the actual performance) to 420hp in 2013, so that they can now claim 450hp as an improvement?

Audi always lowballs on the power numbers anyway. I would assume the 16 S6 will have closer to 500. This is just wild guessing so don't quote me on this.

Porsche publishes the differences between the Panamera S and GTS engine. They are both 4.8L but the GTS has a revised intake system, and camshafts with one millimeter of additional lift.

This is what I am looking for the 2016 S6. A single sentence from Audi that explains the technical differences between 2016 vs 2013.

From what I heard, it's most likely just an ECU change (especially since TQ is unchanged). They did release more technical info on the transmission update btw:

The car’s 7-speed S tronic (DSG) transmission gets even more significant revisions, with the replacement of its hydraulic pump for a new electric equivalent. Now, instead of gears immersed in transmission fluid, they are instead constantly sprayed on demand by the electric pump, which all makes for more efficient performance and less parasitic drag.

Also an interesting tidbit from that article:

Throughout all of these changes, the S6 knocks .1 second off of its 0-60 mph number. That’s a bit conservative, but its seat-of-the-pants measurement felt noticeably quicker. Perhaps that latter point is due to the more dramatic delivery.
