Link doesn't work. Two posts are fine for service, but I'd spring for a 4 post if you want it for service and storage.

What's the point of the lift? I am purchasing this one tomorrow as a storage lift for the A7. As was already said, if for storage, go with a four post. I always worry about a two post breaking its concrete mounts. Plus you need to place the arms every time. Also, many four post lifts include jacking adapters which I will be getting for when I want to work on my cars.

This is timely -- I was just looking at these. 4-post is definitely the way to go.

Unfortunately for me, I'm going to have to figure out a different garage door too.

Wife didn't know it at the time, but that is why I insisted on 12 foot ceilings and high lift doors in our new garage!

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who noticed the condescension. Made me almost go out and buy the stickers I'm going to need when I paint my calipers. Might slap the car on a lift to avoid bending to do that though!

I'm sure this is 100% true, but for what we pay for these cars, the difference between a new lift and used lift is a drop in the bucket. Given the dangers, I can't ever see buying a used one.

+1. I am slowly house hunting and looking at new build or resale. Looking for tall garages or in my area property with an out building My wife knows roughly I want a lift, but I believe she thinks I am kidding.

Here is my question. If you go 4 post, which I think is best for storage, how do you perform certain service functions. Take swapping out winter and summer wheels. I do my own and could not on a 4 post as the wheels stay on the platform. 2 posts allows for more service work. However those 2 posts are advertised as portable, meaning they do not stay stationary? How is that safe when you have your car hoisted over your head? I too want a lift system, but I feel each one has a certain task so I have to figure out which one is more important. Unless I just stick the two post in the corner until I need it.

I think that even the two post lifts that are "portable" are still bolted to the concrete. There just may be some type of quick release. I'm sure two posts are safe, they wouldn't sell them otherwise, but for my peice of mind and ease of installation, I prefer the four post. Plus they are drive on drive off. You can even get removable drip panels to go between the runways to protect the lower car.

As far as jacking the car, see the below link:

There are numerous more expensive or cheaper options, but this is a good middle of the road choice that will do the job.

I've got a Bendpak lift in my garage. My pickup truck goes under it but nothing atop it yet. Oldest son starts driving later this year so I guess it'll get some action soon. Forgive my filthy garage.

That is pretty cool. I never have seen that option before. Makes a stronger case for a 4 post for me. I fear one day I will need storage and I can still use it for service.

here's another option from the miata world: http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?...umber=35-70220

But for only that $700 more I'd go with what you posted for the extra headroom. On the other hand not quite as portable.

As for the "condescension" -- well there comes a time when even car tinkering guys don't really wanna mess with something nice or don't always have the time.. or have gotten bored and moved on to something else (though the bug is coming back I admit). Still, I am pretty excited about a 100hp bump from just a flash tune! For me, it was a kind of therapy. I guess you can get it from different places. Do what makes you happy!

Bendpaks are great and would be my first choice. However, all the new ones seem to require air to disengage the locks. I have air in the garage, but don't want to have to fire it up every time I use the lift.
