Something a little different, giving a C5 S6 some real power.

I'm usually not one to cross-post, but I figured some of you might be interested in a project you might not otherwise see.

A little history first.

I got in to audis because a friend of mine bought a b5 s4 6 or 7 years ago and I got hooked. Having previously owned a couple 2g eclipse gsx's, I loved the concept of awd, turbo, manual, and once you add comfort and luxury in.... I was sold. I drove a couple b5 s4's at the time, one of which was a silver on white alcantara 6mt b5 s4. Loved it but the headroom wasn't there and there were a couple of things that scared me about the car.

The same friend found me a silver c5 a6 with a 6mt/2.7 combo which was already modified and I bought it. Shortly in to my ownership the turbos decided to start drilling, and thus began the slippery slope. The car went through many different iterations in the 50,000 miles I owned her, with 6 or 7 different suspensions, 15+ sets of wheels, and 3-4 different sets of turbos and has thus far been the longest I've owned a car (6 years). My favorite picture of the car from a couple years ago -

During this time I'd considered replacing the a6 several times, carrying over the fueling and drivetrain from the stage 3 a6,

once with a widebody c5 -

once with an olympic allroad -

once with a 6mt allroad, shaved bumpers, fbp, etc -

None of these worked out the way I wanted them to for various reasons, so on to the s6...

Plans include a six speed swap, k24's and who knows what else. Shooting for 450whp+

Well I wasn't planning on buying another car, but Nick (ENDEE666) and I got to talking about how my a6 has been pissing me off with fitment issues between ssac downpipes, frankenturbos and frankenlets, and so I decided to peruse craigslist. Unfortunately for my wallet I found a 2002 S6, Ming blue (need to double check paint code) and white interior for $4500 with a motor that was knocking.

Holy shit. You're kidding me. I've been trying to find an s6 with a blown up motor or trans for years but they never pop up for a good price. The few pictures he had were mediocre at best, and the car had been sitting a while (1 year). Make an appointment for the next day to view it. Morning comes around, I rent a trailer, grab some cash and a battery and go see him. I figure worst case scenario, I'm out $80 and some time if the car is a dud.

Show up and the car is in better shape than I anticipated.... wait.... what front bumper is that..... Holy shit this thing has an rs6 front end and the guy doesn't even know. At this point, I go over the car but I already know I'm buying it. I beat him up on price pretty bad to where he was a bit unhappy with it, but I kept reminding him I have cash in hand, a trailer with me, and I'm ready to get this thing out of his life.

$3650 with presumably oem rs6 wheels and a stack of paperwork. Score. Put a new battery in it, fired it up and drove right on the trailer. Engine knocks badly but it's drivable.

Semi related.

Been working on the garage a bit at the new house. Previous had the toolbox and a large Costco rack setup in the front of the garage but the shelving stuck out pretty far and considering how shallow the garage is, I've decided to build some shallower shelving which quickly turned in to "while you're in there". The previous homeowner had done some diy garage finishing which includes some half-ass wiring, so I've been fixing that up as best as I can. With the new work bench I needed addeds so I've added two down below for power tools, and two up above for under cabinet lights that are switched on by the main garage lights.

Yesterday was building a new work bench with a friend of mine, with the requisite wood top ( still needs a few things to be finished)

Today will be searching for cabinets, and maybe starting to pull the motor, we will see.

Well, even though the trans swap parts are likely quite a ways out, I started taking the car apart a couple nights ago. As an aside, I work on cars for a living, and have nice tools at work, which makes it tough buying duplicates of nice tools for home. Decided to try out a cheap set of torx bits for home use. Boy was that a mistake -

There really is much more to tearing apart a 4.2 car than a 2.7 car, just so many extra lines in weird places, trans cooler, oil cooler, etc etc. Normally at this point I'm thinking that the motor is almost out but with the 4.2 it seems like there's much more left.

Let me know if you decide you'd rather swap an 0A3 behind that motor instead of using another crappy 01E.....I know the perfect spot/guy to get it from

A bit more progress last night.

Started to remove axles, but I couldn't break the axle nuts free so I'll need to bring one of my impacts home from work. Everything is breaking loose on the car, but it seems to be taking 1.5x more effort than it has on previous cars.

Forgot to break the main axle nuts loose while the car was on the ground -

Removed much of the center console, removed shift knob, unbolted shift assembly.

Removed all the engine covers, intake, maf, intake manifold, aux radiator, and a few other things.

Ha. You might say that. I'm a car stereo install tech by day until I find a job utilizing my degree. Hoping to get JL audio to sponsor me, but we'll see how that goes.

A bit more progress tonight. Pinch bolts back in, wheels back on, cats removed, driveshaft disconnected, rs6 door blades installed.

Well, it's not ideal, but not as cramped as you might think.

You must not have noticed. It has an rs6 front end and door blades, only other exterior pieces I need are sideskirts and rear bumper.
