    Clutch Slip?

I changed the oil and put new Bosch F5DP0R plugs in my 2008 JHM Stage 1 6MT A4 today. I took it for a ride and noticed that when I get on it RPMs sometimes surge a bit around 3K without making more power. RPM sometimes go up from 3,000 to 3,400 and then back down to 3,200 in 3rd and 4th. Throttle is constant during this. Other times it is tight and normal. Is this a clutch issue? Any way to diagnose this further? Thanks for any advice.

Sounds clutch like. Do some tests in 6th gear. Go WOT in 6th from low rpm and see if the rpms go up but speed stays the same.

Maintain speed in 6th and push the clutch in while continuing throttle input. Let the RPMs rise 1-2k and then release the clutch completely. A worn clutch will slowly come back down, a good clutch should snap back to the proper RPM.

Will try a mellow week first and 6th gear test next if needed. Will look into clutch DIY as well. I see you both have upgraded clutches. Have the B7A4 clutches been weak when power is.upgraded?

Stock clutch will hold out for a long time on a stock car. I needed to replace mine at ~120k I think.

It's true that it will heal itself somewhat if you baby it for a couple weeks, but it will come back eventually.

If I need to replace my clutch should I consider DIY? I have done a 2.7 timing belt, 2.0 high flow cat, fuel pump, etc. The car is my daily driver and is not tracked, but is driven hard. I had done a few launches on Friday that probably contributed to the glazing. Seems that AMD state 2 or JHM stage 1 would be a good fit if/when I need to replace. The most I would take this car to is K04 hybrid. Thoughts on this? If DIY is not advised, any recommendations on a good shop near northern Westchester County NY?

Diy is up to you. It will be very time consuming and difficult without a lift. But it will cost at least ~$800 at a shop for labor. I wouldn't go with anything other than JHM. Bang for buck, you won't find anything better.

^^agreed with the JHM stage I clutch kit being the best bang for the buck, but IMO it shoulnt take more than 4 hours for an indy shop to do a clutch job.
