    Putting back cams?

    Is there a certain way to putting the cams and tensioner back on and having correct timing? On a a4 1.8t quatro 98

    Yes there is a correct way. there needs t0 be 16 rollers between the timing marks

    Engine at TDC with TB lined up (cam gear and crank damper marks). Notches lined up with arrows on cams and cap with 16 links in between. If done incorrectly will cost you more in the long run (ie bent valve).

    The crank pulley lining up was such a pain in the ass. Mine was off one the head. I believe is common? And it's better to be slightly ahead target than behind.

    There's almost a full timing belts tooth worth of play in the stock crank pulley. So the timing marks might not like up perfectly. If you loosen the crank pulley bolts, you can rotate it until it's perfectly aligned if you're super worried about it.

    Sweet yeah I wasn't sure if it was good idea to line it up just a little off becsue someone was telling me that and thanks guys this is my first time doing it and replacing my valves and seals, I'm only 17 haha
