    Wheel predicament. Advice appreciated.

So I bought a set of VMR 708s off of craigslist for $650 with tires. The catch is they had been repaired in the past and the repair job looked a little bit shaky. The guy was really nice and assured me that it held air and after filling them at his place. No leaks detected. So I bit the bullet and bought them. While I was putting them on I noticed one of the tires was a 225/35/19 while the others were 225/40/19. I bought a new tire for $200 that was that. Fast forward a few days and I come out to my car with a flat. Surprise surprise, one with a repair. I air it up and drive in to the office. When I get there, a different tire, the other repaired wheel, is flat. I air it up and I can hear the air leaking out. I find the leak and voila, the tire is not sealing properly right where the repair is.

So, my options are: Put my old wheels and tires back on and sell them for as close to what I bought them for as possible or I could have them repaired by a reputable shop "Wheels America" for $140 per wheel.

If I go ahead with the repairs I'm sitting at $650 for the wheels, $200 for the new tires and $280 for the repair. Bringing the total for my "new" wheels to $1130......

I've had a really f*cked up day and I'm ready to sell the whole damned car after all of this. Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Buying new is worth it in the end. When my wife said "Buy new next time" I knew I'd never try and save money again.

I would contact the seller and tell him what's going on. Tell him to refund you or get them to seal.

Just an FYI.... If you buy anything on Craigslist, you should use PayPal. If they are not willing to use it then move on.

Take the cracked/repaired wheel to a tire shop and dismount it and rotate the tire 90 degrees and then mount and inflate, should fix it self.

I learned the same lesson with trying cheapo intercooler setups, trying to save a few hundred I ended up spending a few thousand.

I thought the same thing. The tire shop I took them to told me it wouldnt fix anything. I was so pissed off from the first half of the day I stormed out after they told me they didn't want to attempt it.

I'm going in the AM to check it out. Thank you!

In the meantime, I contacted the guy who sold me the wheels to see if he'd refund the money. He seemed like a nice guy and I don't think he meant to burn me.

Had a tire guy scratch the rim remounting the tire. It didn't leak at first and then it started leaking again. Ugh.
