    RE: PCV Warranty

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I did a bit of searching, but didn't see if anyone was told this.

I called in and gave my vin to the local Audi service dept. My PCV has put excessive vacuum on my oil cap, there is blowby around the cap and coil packs, and my next step is when I do some maintenance items I'm gonna pull the PCV and check it.

Audi service had told me, they will ONLY replace it under warranty if there is a hard fault code or whistling noise.

Now I know people have posted here saying they got theirs replaced without any major symptoms except oil blow by.

I asked what if they remove the PCV and check it physically and determine its bad, they responded that I must have a hard fault code or whistling noise or they cannot do it under warranty.

Did anyone else get told this?

My local dealership told me there is a TSB on the PCV and they would replace it for free, but I'd have to swap my catch can back to the original PCV system. Since I'm lazy and don't want to deal with it again, I haven't.

I mentioned the TSB and he went forward to saying that it is only a TSB and not a recall and that they do not have to replace it for free unless it does the above. I was holding back not being rude lol.

I was actually looking into that, but I figured if the PCV replacement is free under warranty why on take advantage of it. If I switch to CC, I'll have a good working PCV!

I think it may be dealers choice? Weird. I took mine in ---new PCV installed free of charge. I even got to drive an Audi A3 Sedan with the 1.8T==LAME.

Yeah, it's gotta be dealer's choice. The dealer is the one who recommended it to me (Audi Silver Spring, IMHO, one of the best dealerships around me. Very mod friendly too).

And the BFI catch can is what I run--very good looking, well-constructed. Recommend unless you can get the modification to vent to your exhaust--problem solved

It's been really good--I mean, it's got the obvious issues of just making sure you check it/empty it often. Mine actually froze over last week, and caused a bit of a scare for me.

Install is pretty easy so long as you have the blocking plates. It looks good, and has a dipstick on top, and a hex port on the bottom to empty.

If I had one flaw, I think it's that mine was sealed up really well so the top part requires something like vice-grips to get open, but you're not really supposed to open it.
