Question 2015 S5, mod or wait for warranty to expire? And various other questions.

Hey all, I just got my S5 a few weeks ago, and with reading all these threads about modding I've caught the bug. Is it worth it to wait until the warranty expires (in 4+ years) or are there some simple mods I can do that won't void the warranty or that I can take off before going into the dealership for service work. I asked the salesman at the dealership about putting an RS5 grill on the S5 and he said that it would lower the value of the car, is this true? Some small mods I'd like to do is get the Audi/S5/Supercharged tags painted black but since I've never done anything like this or owned a car in the past worth modding I have no idea where to begin. Those that have already done this, did yall also paint the front Audi symbol black as well? How did it look with the stock S5 grill? Or did it blend in too much? Some background on my S5, Glacier White, Black Optic package, Black Alcantara interior, Carbon Atlas inlays, Supercharged badges. I have posted pictures in the new owner thread as well (I'm at work currently and can't access Imgur).

    Thanks in advance :).

Doing cosmetic things aren't a big deal if it lowers the value, just keep your stock parts and go back whenever you need to.

If you start messing with the ECU, etc., you could potentially be flagged a TD1 which is a warranty void, but many members on here still do it. It depends on the dealer you go to as well, wherever you have it serviced and how strict/lenient they are.

Welcome.. If you have the budget go for an AWE exhaust and Sflo intake. This shouldn't have any effect on your warranty. As far as the grill is concerned, if you like it, go for it. If you're concerned about lowering the value on a future trade, save the original parts and swap back later.
I went to stage 2 ECU flash, but only had a year left so wasn't as concerned.

Funny how my dealer said any form of aftermarket intake automatically voids the warranty and they will TD1 it immediately - I asked specifically about an intake as it's easy to install and really just makes the supercharger whine more. Exhaust was no issue and things such as springs or coilovers would just void any warranty on those components. Personally I'm just planning on OE springs and installing my wheels once spring is here. Everyone's dealership will be different and good luck OP on whatever you choose to do.

Congrats on the new car! I bought an S5 couple months back and also purchased an extended warranty so I was very anxious about modding as well. I did some research and for the most part if you go to a good dealer, they're pretty understanding. Now if you tune your car and/or replace the supercharger pulley etc, they can TD1 your car. So far I've added an intake, exhaust, h&r suspension, LED mods, new fogs, wheels, trans mount insert, etc. I recently took my car for its first service and they gave me no problems at all, in fact the tech complimented the car and mods. I highly recommend researching the Audi dealers nearby, reading the reviews online and see how their service department is rated. That is how I settled on my Audi dealer and love the service thus far!

So (depending on the dealership) if I go aftermarket intake, exhaust, & suspension then only those specific things will be voided as far as Audi warranty is concerned? And thanks for everyone's input.

I just bought a 2015 s5 and I just modded my car with ECU and pulley for super charger, awe pipes and hr springs. The difference in performance is amazing. As for the ecu, they say they can reverse it if you need to take it I to the dealer. At this point I'm loving the mods and am glad I didn't wait for the warranty to expire before starting. I'd rather enjoy the car now than wait four years later. Hoping the car stays strong without defects....no risk no reward...

I had 20,000 miles on my 2013 before moving to the APR Stage II setup. Took it to an Audi Club track day here in Houston while still stock. After the track day and 20,000 miles I figured if anything was going to break it would have by then, so I wasn't concerned about drivetrain warranty. The Stage II perks the car up nicely, and makes day to day driving much more enjoyable.

ahhh the bug. The simplest advice that I have is mod it as long as you can reverse it. I was reading on one of the threads that the dealer would not repair a sports differential because the car was lowered. I believe it all got finally resolved when the owner raised his car back up. Get to know your service advisor and work with them.
