unable to scan k line when climate and cluster connected

    Hello!
So I have an A4 year 97, before I was able to scan the car just fine with VCDS, but then AC vaporizer had to be replaced and then scan line stopped working.
I found out though that if I disconnect fuses 5 and 15 from the fuse box the k line works fine again and I can scan and get fault codes etc.
But of course I cant scan the climate unit nor the instruments clusters because according to the fuse diagram 5 and 15 are for cluster and climate control.
I have no problems whatsoever with those modules, so no idea why suddenly they are interfering with the scan tool.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

if they had the dash out to do the evaporator it sounds like they maybe pinched the k line and it shorting to ground. Disconnect the wires at the back of the cluster and put the fuses back in and see if you can scan it, that will eliminate one of the two problems. Then plug the cluster in and remove the hvac module and see if you can scan it and report back.

Sean, here is the update. So I removed the inst cluster and removed both connectors blue and yellow, then connected the computer and I was actually able to scan!
I didnt want to try the same with the hvac because the removal process is actually more complicated and I thought then maybe the issue is with the cluster indeed. But let me know if otherwise...
Anyway, out of curiosity I plugged the blue connector only and tried to scan and again it worked just fine! So then I plugged the yellow connector and the scanner stopped working, as a last test I removed the blue connector and left only the yellow one but again the scanner didnt work.
So, I think the problem is with the yellow connector that goes to the cluster.
    What do you think?
    Thanks again...
