Nashville, TN Area (Columbia) turbo swap?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone around the Nashville area that can replace k03 turbos for a decent price? I'm new to mechanical work, and feel like pulling an engine would be biting off a bit too much to chew for myself. I'd probably do more harm than good. If you're nearby and willing, please PM me with a price or recommendation. Thank you!

Pulling an engine is actually..Pretty simple, don't be scared; it is about 20 bolts.

Read the many DIY's on here and watch the videos. Rent a engine hoist and do it. Get a couple beers and a friend. Take your time; don't rush and you'll be fine.

That sounds easy when I read "about 20 bolts", but in reality… oh well

2 bolts to get bumper off
    4 bolts top rad support
    4x2 bolts bumper bars
    6x2 bolts for axles
1x2 big allen bolts for the hub/axle bolts
6 bolts on the drive shaft
    1x2 for tranny mounts
    1x2 for engine mounts.
    -------
    38 Bolts...

    Did I miss any?

I honestly think this is how it goes:

Everyone who hasn't pulled an engine thinks it is difficult and scary; everyone who has pulled an engine will say it is fairly simple just take your time.

As I said, read / research and you'll be fine.

Honestly, it doesn't sound so bad, but to be up front with you I have never done that before.

Have you pulled the motor before?

I've pulled the 2.7 about 6 times now. Gets easier each time; and I am by no means a pro.

    Btw I forgot 3 bolts--AC Condenser.

I am telling you, it sounds more daunting then it is. A first timer can EASILY pull and replace in a weekend. Just to be safe, give yourself 4-5 days and you'll be fine. Take your time, know where things go, clean up after yourself and stay organized.

oh and as I said before.

Before I pulled my motor, I can't even tell you how many threads I went through reading, found the one I liked the most and had it opened while I did my first motor pull. My buddy was with me I think I had it out in about 6-7 hours including food breaks.

Hardest part of pulling an engine is remembering where everything goes when it's ready to go back in. Take pics and it's cake.

Never pulled the 2.7, but I do have experience with other engines. I figure the 2.7 will just cause a few more swear words with how tight everything is.

Being organized and keep everything on track go a long way.

I'm not gonna lie though, I'm more the individual who prefers/ learns quicker to see everything/ steps in person how's done. Might be just me anyway. If you are happen to do another engine pull in the near future, I'd appreciate if I could just learn from you as you are located near Philly as well.

Easier pulling the motor than the transmission. Getting to the top bolts and downpipe bolts suck. Though the second go around we had it out and in in the same time as it took to take it out the first time lol.

agreed, being organized is always key. I label everything in plastic containers. I lose my shizz when i misplace stuff.

Wbrunner23 on here dropped the trans, and pulled the motor. Message him as which he thought was easy. I believe the last time we talked the conscientious was pull the motor since he was on jack stands(probably a different story when you have a lift)

I know when he pulled his motor he pulled w/o the trans, I've always pulled w/ the trans. I find it easier, but then again I don't know the other way...I figure whenever I pull a motor just to stick with the method that I know. Plus I don't like my hands in little spaces getting cut up trying to get those trans bolts out.

01audia4 is right, this isn't a hard pull. I find it easier to pull the trans at the same time. Getting all the trans bolt in and out can be a pain with it in. Take pictures of every step and buy ziploc baggies and label everything, literally every bolt and you won't have a problem. There are very good videos and diy's about this. If you can turn a wrench I highly recommend you do it yourself. Do you give yourself plenty of time though.

If you have access to a lift just pull the tranny. If not pull both lol I hate working on my back.

Thanks 01audia4! I will surely contact him.

On a serious not I assume that just pulling the trans while the car is on jack stands is hard(er). I'm surprised he finds it easy, but I guess if you got the right equipment and sufficient experience, you're good.

Thanks for the input! I'll try to tackle this job when it get's a bit warmer out there.
