    Bad engine vibration at idle **vid**

    Inside the car, the car almost feels like it's oscillating left to right. The engine moving left to right is very visible when looking inside the engine bay.

    - No fault code so far.
    - Car has 34k Miles.
    - I'm 4500 miles in since the last oil change. Added half a quart about 1000 miles ago.
    - Coils were replaced 15k ago.


    I've taken a video of the back of the engine cover just to show you how much it's moving in relation to the fire wall.

    It almost looks like the engine is trying to escape, lol. WTF, any idea what could be wrong?

    Motor mounts? The passenger side is below the turbo/cat covered by a sheet of heat shield fabric. Take a look for signs of leakage or movement. I'm not sure about checking the driver side. Might have to do it from below.

    Engine mounts would go out at 34k mi when all highway driven?
    I don't sense any vibration or play in power transfer when driving down the road.

    It looks like a missfire to me. Have you scanned the ecm for any pending codes?

    Moto mount can go whenever, these factory mounts sucks! i'm already on my 3rd set. just waiting till they go again to get the 034 mounts. Check your oil level, low oil can cause rough idle.

    There's a million threads about this. Could be anything from bad: fuel injectors, coil packs, intake manifold, breather valve, pcv lines, carbon build up, bad gas, high pressure fuel pump, etc. At 34k miles you're still under warranty (unless you're chipped) so wait for a CEL and bring it to dealer.

    Even if you dont have a CEL just bring it to the dealer... they will see the vibration. If there is something wrong with it, don't wait and let the engine damage itself (if something is in fact very wrong).

    If you have been chipped with APR or something, bring your car to the tuner and have them completely flash to stock, and reset counter. This way you won't get a TD1

    My car is a 2010 bought in 2009, so i'm out of warranty unfortunately.
    As long as it's not a motor mount, i'm trying to keep this a DIY fix.

    As the previous posters said, there are so many possibilities given the search results.

    I'm hoping a CEL lights up soon so i can zero in on the cause.

    You can look at the engine mount, just search someone says how to look for it and the DIY right up for it is pretty good.

    Sounds/looks like either it's misfiring or a vacuum leak somewhere. Get vag-com on it and scan it. Not all codes trigger a CEL.

    Just to close out this discussion, the culprit was bad gas. I think the bad gas was causing misfires.

    After flushing out the gas from no-brand gas station and refilling with Techron, the vibration at idle went away.
