Anyone convert their 1 piece wheels to 3 piece?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just curious if anyone has ever done this. I know those guys over in poland (can't think of the name) are killing it with their conversions by making regular steelies look awesome and Miester work was too Stateside, but sounds as if he's dropped off. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to where I should source lips and barrels from? along with hardware?

    Thanks

never heard of making a 1 piece wheel into a 3 piece. but i know people have widened the inside barrel of a 1 piece wheel. Also either of those methods would have to be done absolutely perfect or the wheel will never be able to be balanced properly

look pretty cool, seems they cut out the centers then drill out holes and add barrels on both sides.

this is the first I've ever heard of this.

    really cool concept.

They must weight a stupid amount though, and still looks super pricey..

looks cool, but would cutting the wheel affect the structural integrity of the wheel?

Looks good but I've got to wonder just how strong they really are? Cutting a cast wheel then bolting it back together is guaranteed to fatigue the metal. As good as it looks I would not trust my life to this.
Life has taught me never try to make something idiot proof, they'll simply come up with a better idiot.
I'd agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.
I have neither the time, nor the crayons to explain this to you properly.

am I the only one that thinks this is a stooopid idea? it doesn't sound like there is any true engineering behind this other than them visually measuring the thickness of the edges. no metal analysis or testing of fatigue after it's been cut.

    yep.

plus, they typically weld a ring around the cut section to provide a flange to drill.

there's quite a few shady wheel customization joints out there.

also how to they drill the holes to ensure they are perfectly aligned with the center of the wheel? a templated press?

Obviously the structural integrity would be optimized but it's not like I'm doing it for a track wheel. I would want it for another set of show wheels.

I really like the look of a wheel with a polished lip. It seems that this look is not favored by many Audi owners and there doesn't seem to be too much out there at a reasonable price point. However, a polished lip becomes much more difficult to repair when it gets curb rashed.

Honestly you're better off just finding a 3-piece wheels you like and buying that. The price will probably be the same if not less and you'll still maintain the structural integrity of the wheel.

I already have three piece wheels. I was looking for something out of the box to do and hoping for suggestions other than to just buy ones lol. Thanks though

Try Unknown Coatings (@unknowncoatings on IG). They've done a 3-piece Enkei RPF-1 and a 3-piece Volk TE37. Some other companies to possibly contact are VR Wheels, SpinFAB and Spintech LLC. I just purchased a set of 18" 2-piece BBS RS-II's converted to 19" 3-piece from Spintech and they did a terrific job with them.

I loved my polished lips, but man are they a pain to maintain:

Oh wow, haha, I hadn't followed up after they posted the picture, didn't know that. Nothing surprises me these days with fake wheels though, it's sad. And thanks man. Still doin some tweaks and will most likely have to upgrade my sleeve kit to a full coil setup, but hopefully I'll have everything worked out come spring!
