    Coilover help needed

    Hey Everyone,

I've got a 01 A4 Avant (2.8) and in the middle of a massive paint overhaul. So while it was fully apart I got thinking I should figure out my move to coilovers after I finish paint. I mean, why spend 2k in paint and materials to leave that SUV ride height, right?

So I have been through every coilover thread I could find on multiple forums and I have my eye on a couple: ST's, Vogtland GT3's, and possibly the H&R streets for the avant. I've heard everything from great to bouncy about the ST's and H&R's, but no one seems to specify if they have those on an Avant. I'm going to keep the drop conservative because this is my DD and I'm often driving in SF in the Nob hill and Pacific heights neighborhoods. Hills are inevitable and the roads on my normal commutes are not that great. Not horrible, but not that smooth. Oh, I also have about 30ish lbs of audio in the back, S4 front sway and 034 rear sway w/ 034 endlinks.

I'm really looking to see if anyone has experience on these with an Avant. I don't want something bouncy and it has to be firm enough to handle decently spirited driving on hwy 1 since I drive the Avant when I have my girl with me.

This isn't my first experience with coilovers, but it's my first on an Audi avant and first with these brands. Maybe this is just me, but it seems the ST's have a seperate coil/shock setup for the rears and Vogtlands are coil on shock in the back. I may have seen misleading pics.

Any help from people with direct experience on avants would be great.

    Thanks guys

I've read every thread I could find over the last few months. I know the coils will feel different on an Avant vs a Sedan. I'm not looking for fine or good enough. I will not be changing the coilovers unless they break. I have other cars where my money is better spent. I really need the opinion of Avant owners and the "why" to "they're great" comments.

The real question is what are you looking for out of your coils? Other ppl will 9 times out of 10 not have the same idea or opinions about them.

Like I mentioned in the op. I'm looking for a coil to give me a conservative drop, about half inch to full inch from top of the tire. Low but not looking to rub or scrape. I will be driving on these daily. I do plenty of road trips with my girl and the wagon is the car we take so I'm looking to have a coil firm enough to handle the curvy mountain and coastal roads. I want great build quality and a smooth/firm bounce free ride. I know some bounce will happen depending on the road, I'm not looking to get the set that has me bouncing down to road after driving over a crack in the asphalt lol. I picked out the 3 above (st, vogtland gt3, H&R) because they seem to have what I'm looking for and near or under my 1000 budget.

I definitely wont be tracking these coils. I have other cars for the track.

    Does that answer your question?
