    new member, new b6

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Have been on AZ for several months now doing research and just recently became a member after purchasing my b6. I have always loved German cars, I have owned several bimmers ( 2 E36's and an E38 ) as well as a couple B5 passats but I have always liked the B6 Audis. I originally was after a 1.8 because, well who doesn't love boost? But came across the 3.0 I have now and couldn't pass it up. Got a good deal on it and it had a well documented service history and appeared to be well cared for. I knew ahead of time that aftermarket support for the 3.0 wasn't near as good as it is for the 1.8 but It wasn't until after purchasing the car and looking further into it that I found out it is almost non-existent (Thank God for JHM). The car is all stock for now but that wont last long, I find a lot of inspiration on AZ and never could leave any of my cars stock. I look forward to being a part of this community and hopefully meeting some of you in person at future shows/meets. Anyways here are a few quick cell phone pics.

Trying to decide on a theme. Was thinking about blacking out a few things like a black grill w/ silver rings and black wheels with silver/chrome lips. Just one of several ideas though.

Eh, blacking things out has become.... Too common. And screams.... "Hey... Look, my audis modified Yo". I have black plastidipped oem sportline rims and regret that decision. I feel like a bro.

I wouldn't black out my wheels unless it went with the theme of the car. I bought the sport 17s used with black paint on them and changed them back to silver when I got the chance. Some black wheels do look really nice on our cars though so I'm not totally against it.

Aurora. Very close to cincinnati ohio. Actually considered part of greater cincinnati. Im somewhat familiar with southern Michigan though. Lived in Adrian for a short while and have family in the Ann Arbor area. Also spent a lot of time in northern Michigan riding dirt bikes/atvs.

Welcome! Glad to have another 3.0'er in our company!

At least the motors are relatively simple and reliable. I look forward to seeing what you do with it. It looks well-optioned to begin with.
Is it me or are 3.0's now falling out of the hands of regular non-car people, and into enthusiasts?

I wasn't dead set on the black theme, just an idea I was tossing around. Ideally I would like to have some real bbs lm's but with all the things I want/plan on doing those wheels are out of my price range. At least for now. I will, at some point, own some genuine bbs wheels. Also thought about some ronal wheels.

Thank you for this ^ I have been reading, googling and searching a lot for information about performance parts/mods and tuning for the 3.0 and somehow never came across this. So thanks again, good info.

I would just get a USP front, paint the lowers, do a drop and some wheels and be done with it. If you're eventually gonna swap then no point of doing engine mods.

Carbon wrap or piano black that wood trim. Wood looks so us sporty! Just my opinion though. ;-)

X2 USP and painted lowers and wrapping the wood trim.

Unless you prepared to spend a good chunk of money on a swap I would research more reviews on 3.0 mods, You'll be very happy with a good full exhaust dp+catbck and a tune from JHM. It really wakes the car up, for 500 bucks you could buy a tune and make some piggies and have a good bump in performance.

There is a DIY on here that you can paint the lowers yourself if your willing to put the time into some quality prep work it will come out pretty nice. Silver is hard to match but for the cost of materials and results you get a DIY is really good way to go for the USP and painted lowers on silver.

If It were me I'd keep it budget on this car and go with bang for buck these cars aren't worth much these days especially a non USP, Here is a rough estimate of some of the most popular mods you could do and keep things on a good budget

    -500 JHM Tune
-Gut Cats (piggies) FREE, minus a weekend of your time
-300-400 DIY USP front and painted lowers
-75 or so DIY carbon fiber wrap or other style or wrap
-$ lowering springs or cost effect coil overs
-$ good set wheels and tires from classifieds
-100$ USP rear spoiler from wrecking yard if you can find a silver wont have to paint
I'd say that could range from 1-4k easily

A engine swap would easily be that much if not more depending on mods and that's not counting doing anything else like USP, wheels, coil overs, interior mods, clutch, brakes. My recommendation is to keep it simple and budget for quality DIY's that you take time to do good and have quality results.

do they even make that anymore? I thought they blew up enough cars that they called it quits. I just found the charger online for $3.8K. Hopefully no one buys it. Im sure the charger could have been a viable option IF someone worked out a proper tune for it. Plus, you cant beat the simplicity of a bolt on kit that can be installed in an afternoon. If only these worked.

Yes they still sell it. But there are no tunes available. From what I read there was only 1 tune that worked but they stopped selling it.

I wasn't very specific in reguards to the engine swap. I plan to keep this car for a very long time and so at some point the engine will need rebuilt/replaced (hopefully not for a long time) and then at that point I will probably do the swap. But until the i will deffinetly take advantage of the performance and tuning products out there for the 3.0. My first mod will most likely be suspension, probably just springs for now. Going to use the b5 cap in the front with some nuespeed springs I think. Then will probably get the jhm catless downpipes and tune. After that i Havnt decided which direction I'll go. In the meantime ive been replacing a few little things like peeling buttons, and tracking down a few things my car was missing like a complete toolkit and the emergency triangle. And getting ready to purchase the full version of vcds so that I can program my retrofitted b7 key fob.
