VAG-COM long coding helper -- change not sticking

I'm trying to code a few things, but when I check/uncheck the bit for the corresponding change (disable tear wipe), press exit, 'Do it!', and receive the 'code accepted' message, its not sticking. When I go back, the setting isn't changed.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need the engine on? I've only got the ignition on...

Turn car OFF.
Get out of the car and lock it.
Turn on the car and see if you have tear wipe.

For some reason I had to turn my seat belt dinger off twice. That was the only one I had that didn't stick the first time for whatever reason.

I had same problem with tear wipe - no luck at all.
