    MonSoonHell - which tune?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I never created a thread where a poll was included...so thought I would pop my cherry on this one. And was thinking that those who kept their S4 stock or is in the same dilemma I am caught up in, this could help decide which tune to go for.

For those that do not know my dilemma, I have (unfortunately) reached 45000 miles and the latest recall for MonSoonHell will cause Audi to flash my ECU which will wipe my STaSIS tune. I never had any problems/issues with STaSIS or their tune, and if they were still in business, I would keep their tune.

Audizine, help me find out which tune would serve MonSoonHell the best.

The three issues you should know are:
    1) No spending cap for tune
    2) TD1 is no longer a concern
    3) Needs to be equivalent or more than current dyno numbers already on MonSoonHell. Dyno numbers are 357 hp & 369 tq, at the wheels.

Comments and/or Opinions are welcomed and encouraged.

    Thanking you all in advance!

before the dealer does that i believe Revo will flash your car to their file for a minimal fee. At least that was the deal a few months ago. you can at least try it out and if you don't like it then switch...

Call REVO - they may give you a deal since you are a STaSIS customer.
Otherwise whichever tuner has a shop nearby that you trust and like is the tune to go with.

Plus if you like the STaSIS tune and have their V2 then the REVO stage 1 tune is essentially the same and you can stick with what you know and like.

Hey MonSoonHell! Love your mods, great car.

APR for stability/longevity, DSG software soon
Unitronic would be interesting but not really required as you likely wont be worrying about TD1's in the upcoming services with your mileage

    My two thoughts.

I'll be in LI in 2 weeks if you want to ride in APR S2. Good luck!

I have a higher mileage 2010 (75k) and am running stage 2 with pulley at 93 octane setting…cannot help you with hp/tq numbers, but i am happier than hell with it and have never had any issues with it..Good Luck with it all..S

APR's inadequacies as a business has left a sour taste in my mouth.

I, however, do think they will be as strong as ever once they get seated with their new operations.

    So, voted GIAC.

I went with other, since EPL actually offers a flash from home option, which I have opted for. Will post a review once installed.

love my stage-2 APR tune on my 2012. The low-end torque is awesome for daily driving, and it pulls all the way to redline instead of dying off. since we have b8's I'm not sure of the DSG tune will be worth it, unless you're hitting the drag strip trying to shave off tenths of seconds.

I was in the exact same boat as MonSoonHell but as I had originally bought Stasis when it was an APR tune I didn't get Revo support enough though I had been updated to Stasis V2. I'm likewise a free agent again with no TD1 concerns and waiting to see some real live numbers form Uni before I decide who to go with. Right now I'm leaning towards Uni or Revo with pulley upgrade.

    MonSoonHell - which tune?

Back when stasis ate it, I jumped to APR. One, because of the many reviews and reliability of the tune. There were too many mixed reviews with Revo at that time and they did have the promo out that APR did when I was ready to switch. Also, we have lots of local APR support very close to us ( Elite for example) so it was very convenient. GIAC support isn't nearly as close so that was just out of the question regardless of their numbers.

So far everything has been great. Much better than the stasis tune. Love this car more and more every time in drive it and one of the main reasons is the tune.

I have never dyno'd my car so unfortunately don't have numbers to share... No track times either. So many people have APR tunes that someone should be able to help out here... There were many posts some time ago with some good comparisons by TSIVAS and others.

Thank you all for responding and voting. The feedback is awesome. I was wondering if those with tunes could edit their responses and show dyno numbers? Much appreciated...

And I emailed REVO to see if they will honor my tune in anyway. Awaiting a response. This in no way means I am focusing on REVO, so the poll and responses are valued.

Not sure which way your leaning but I was thinking about going with Unitronic and right now KMD tuning (one of the board sponsors) is running a $1600+tax install of the stage 2+ with pulley for the month of February, seems like a pretty awesome deal. Their located in north Jersey so not much of a hike for us being on the island

On the REVO website, KMD is also a dealer for REVO. Not sure how updated REVO's website is, (emailed them about - awaiting a response), because when you click on KMD website link, it brings you back to an error page on REVO's website.

That is an awesome price...will look up their dyno numbers. Thanks.

I'm surprised with the number of votes for unitronic. I like the whole idea of flashing from home, but from what I've aware, i don't think there are any track numbers for unitronic. I would love to see what numbers they are putting down before getting their tune (put the price for stage 2 is so tempting).

The power numbers are comprable to the other tunes that have been tested on the track so I'd assume they will be very similar in the end, the price does make it very tempting and they have a great rep with the VW tuning scene

What about EPL? Haven't seen a dyno of their stage 2 tune but they are the first tuner to offer tune at home. However I don't think they have the ability to flash back to stock (OEM) just flash back to a stock-ish map.

EDIT: just read the entire thread and saw boseephuss mentioned EPL.

Gonna see a dyno in about 2weeks. . It would be great if they offered that deal again. 850 for stage 2 with pulley. As far as flashing to stock, I don't see why not?? I'll ask tony. I bought the cable too. They can upload all programming to my computer at anytime. What i like about this tune also is that it a TRUE 91 octane stage 2 file. Not a 93 file that "adapts" to 91.

News: I contacted REVO through emails. Interesting information received. I am at work now and cannot recall the particulars and do not have access to my email, so I will update once I get home. This does not mean I am going REVO. I have been doing a lot of reviews of the other tuning companies out there and can tell you that I am no closer to making a decision than prior to this thread being created.

Ok...here is the information from the REVO email. They are treating me as a REVO customer. To upgrade to Stage 1+ which includes the pulley upgrade will be $500. I definitely want their SPS (Serial Port Switch), which will be offered with 10% off. So let's say the total is $655 + tax.

After looking at my STaSIS/REVO receipt, there was no labor charge. The tune was installed at Waterfest...so curious what their dealer will charge me for labor.

Now another question....has anyone utilized Elite Motors of New Jersey? I know they are a REVO dealer. From looking at their Facebook site, they just moved to LODI, NJ.

Thanks again, Audizine for voting and responding.

If you are in no rush to get a tune I would wait till the season starts and the new tuners get some people to the track, since you already have a tune this is what I would do. If you going to be spending $ to tune the car(again), I wouldn't go with "the cheapest" option because its the cheapest. Since your are a B8, GIAC and APR have a solid foundation and currently hold fastest positions and proven reliability and numbers, they also have the most mileage behind their tunes and customers, which Stasis does as well.. (New)Revo has run some good times on the 8.5 on pump gas but I have not seen numbers for the B8(for their new tunes) excuse my ignorance if I missed some. I have not seen one time-slip or pass from either Unitronic, or EPL either on a 8 or 8.5.

That said, if Revo is the only dealer in your area and is the most convenient, that is a huge plus as well.

Most of what I said is coming from a viewpoint of, I currently do not have any tune, which, for you, I know is not the case. It is hard to say what tune will provide elevated dyno numbers compared to what you have now, since dynos are not easily compared, different day, different dyno, dyno operator, etc...

You will have to buy and then hope you get better numbers, go when its cold :-)

Sound advice. I appreciate the response. My deadline for a tune is prior to Waterfest. But then again driving with a tune for a long period, I do not know how long I can go without one....LOL!

I am fortunate that I have choices given where I live, thus my poll and dilemma. I really hate what the recall entails. I remain open minded. Thanks again.

We're an APR dealer, so I'll vote for that. The tunes are strong, super reliable, and will mesh well with the DSG tune when its released - I rarely see APR 3.0T's (across the board) come in with tune related issues. Hard to compare with the Revo number, but if you don't mind heading out to NJ, I can give you a quote for the Stage 2 setup/pulley if you decided to change it up.
