    Breaks barely working?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
6 months ago I changed my brake pads and rotors and didnt have any issues come up until winter started. Ever since the start of winter on a cold start my brakes barely work and then increasingly get better over 10 minutes of driving and then they work fine after about 10 minutes(so it seems) but after my brakes start working right my brake light will flash for a couple minutes then stop and come back on a couple minutes later and does this repeatedly. The brake light NEVER flashes for the first couple minutes of driving when they are barely working. I press the petal all the way down and the car still takes forever to stop. This has been going on for at least 2 months(I live in the south so it doesn't get that cold until December) and the problem hasn't gotten any better or worse. Any ideas?

Also, the brakes are not stiff when I first start the car, they go down all the way easily.

what year is car, when is the last time the brakes were flushed with the proper dot 4 fluid?
Brake fluid is hydroscopic (it collects water) over time the hydraulic properties diminish and it cannot perform as needed...I flush mine completely every 4 years or so but im sure they can go a bit longer.

This also, check you vac line to the booster. Could have a small leak when cold and then when it warms up things seal back up.
What ever makes sense go with the opposite and you got it

The car is a 2005.5 and I have owned it for a year so there's no telling when it was last flushed, I'll look up the diy to this and try it out. Will post back with results writhing a couple days, thanks!

    X2

It's pretty common. Going off that specifically check the vac line from the brake booster and other lines that connect to that.

And if you opted to go with something like ceramic pads (rather than OEM), they also usually have a lower initial bite when cold. But not to this extreme.

Thanks for all the input, am going to try out all of your suggestions over the weekend. And my pads aren't ceramic but i am putting ceramics on after I fix this issue.
