    Anyone know where i can find one for this type of harness?

    You are looking for the harness itself? Should have a P/N on it that you can use to order it.

    I need that bug to fit the poem airbag plug for our cars. Its a slightly different shape.

    Ahh, got it. I would look at the pinout and transfer the contacts between connector housings assuming they are made by the same manufacturer and are the same series.

    don't think they are. Also don't want to touch stock airbag so that i can sell it.

    The two small connectors on the airbag should be a standard across Audi, I believe it is a JST SQSK, you should be able to buy the harness for the car you are putting it in, and just plug it into the airbag.

    If memory serves the only difference between that housing and ours is that the ridges on the side are in a different position, you can use a utility knife to shave them off and it will physically plug in to the RS4 roll connector.

    Once you have done that you need to move a couple of the pins to get the electrical connections correct. I'll see if I can dig up my notes from when I did my TT-S wheel.

    This is the RS4 connector:


    This is your connector with the parts that need to be removed marked in red:


    And these are the instructions I followed, it's pretty easy to figure out once you have the 2 harnesses next to each other, just make sure each of the wires on the new harness goes to the same pin as on the RS4 harness.
    OK, here's the procedure to rewire the harness for the TT MKII MFSW. The harness has part # 8J0 971 589 B.

    MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY BEFORE DOING ANY WORK WITH THE AIRBAG!

    The 12 pin plug connector (yellow) on the TT MKII harness needs to have three of its wires re-assigned. Open the cover on the back of the harness plug. Looking at the plug connector from behind as if you were going to plug it in, there are 2 rows of slots, which we will number
    1-2-3-4-5-6
    7-8-9-10-11-12

    3 through 6 are for the airbag - DO NOT TOUCH!

    7 = Brown
    8 = Yellow (horn)
    9 = Purple
    10 = Red

    1, 2, 11, 12 are empty.

    Push out the purple lock in the harness and then release the appropriate wire to be re-assigned.

    You need to move the following wires:
    move the Brown wire from 7 >to> 1
    move the Yellow wire from 8 >to> 2
    move the Red wire from 10 >to> 8

    All MFSW controls including the horn should now work. You may also need to trim the tabs from the sides of the plug to be able to insert into the S/C ring socket. You'll know what I mean when you see it.
    Once you get the purple lock off the connector shell you just need something small enough to release the barbs on each pin and they'll pop right out.

    Ok great shouldn't be too tough. Making the connectors physically fit though. What parts am I shaving/ removing and will it still lock into place?

    I colored them red above, you need to shave off the 2 "ears" sticking out of the inner part of the plug. When you have the 2 plugs side by side you can see the difference pretty easily, on the TT plug they're much wider than the RS4 plug and won't fit into the socket on the roll connector.

    The latch itself is the same, the plug will click into place on the socket just like the RS4 one does. It just doesn't have the purple secondary latch, which I guess they dropped in the later years.

    OK everything went great accept the locking pin broke and the wires won't stay in place. Gonna need a new harness. Anyone know where to get one? Its the one with the orange clip pictured above.

    Which part did you break? The harness part number is right on the little sticker "flag" on the harness.

    It should be 8J0971589B, the last letter may be a later revision like F or H

    Bumping this old thread...

    I have someone who's working on repinning my TT-RS airbag as I type. He said he's got the horn to work, but the airbag light is still on once the harness is connected. Does anyone know if I need a vagcom to recode anything, or should the airbag light automatically disappear once the harness is connected properly?
