CVT Transmission Issue - Can I swap a 2005 Sedan CVT Trans into my 2003 Convertible ?

    Hey,

I was just wondering if I can swap a 2005 Sedan CVT Trans into my 2003 Convertible ?

I can buy the transmission for about $500 & another $500 to get it installed. (it has about 150K) which concerns me because I'm sure it will go one day as well

Anyway, it might overcome my slipping issue for a while - which I am will to pay about $1000 for.

$1000 to put in a used 150k mile CVT transmission is a bad deal any way you look at it. But all A4 CVTs (b6/B7) should be interchangeable, though the B7 ones may require a matching TCU, not sure.

Sorry I'm not familiar with CVT's, but many people here have done reliable manual swaps for less than that.
I've heard CVT's are unreliable. So if that is true, why put in a 150k mile one that will break.
When you can put in a lower mileage manual trans, and possibly convert your car to quattro if you want, that will not break. It's simply gears and synchronizers, that last for a really long time as long as you don't thrash on the car.

I figured out the same thing when looking for a used CVT. They're way overpriced. Over $5,000 for a new/remanufactured from the dealer and over $2,000 for any with half decent milage. My CVT crapped out at 104,000 so I wouldn't even consider slapping in a 100,000 mile CVT. One with 50k, maybe if the price was right but it will not be so I've about given up my search. If I knew anyone near me with the know how to swap in a 5 speed I'd be all over it. I just don't think it's worth it to pay a shop thousands to get the job done. I know I can do most of the work myself but just not familiar with clutches, pedals, slave cylinders and weary about the spindles between a CVT/5 speed. I just really hate seeing a car the I couldn't get enough of sitting there dead...
