    Tiptronic A6 not shifting

Alright guys so i've got a problem with my buddy's car.

We pulled the motor and changed the turbos. In the process of pulling the motor we broke the shift cable and box (forgot to disconnect it -_-). After putting everything back together with a new shifter box and cable the following problems happen.

Won't shift out of first gear
When putting into tiptronic it does nothing
    Park, drive and reverse work.

No codes from the TCU. Both electical connections are plugged in.

    Any suggestions?

Edit: Just pulled P1857 Missing message from ECU code from the trans.

    Block 004 recognizes me putting it in Park, N, D, R, 4,3,2.

i highly doubt the trans is bad since it worked perfectly fine before removal.

I pulled the F189 switch plug to throw the trans into limp. The car stays in limp 4th gear so i know it has the ability to change gears...weird.

Speed inputs read ok in TCU measuring blocks? Should have RPM and vehicle speed and such things. Anything reading zero and doesn't respond when moving? Maybe it doesn't shift because it doesn't think it has to.

Did you do Throttle Body Adaptation and Trans basic settings/kick down?

All solenoids checked out as well.

This was taken at idle but the only thing that changes is engine/slip speed and pedal position.

The car doesnt read anything other than RPM when moving. I have no idea how to do this kickdown talk you speak of. I'll do a quick search on it.

I pulled the trans pan. It appears the Transmission Input Speed G182 has been disconnected! It is odd to me that this wouldn't trigger a code but i plugged it back in and put the pan back on. I'm also hoping that this is tied to the G195.

Tomorrow i'm going to fill it back up to spec and pray this thing finally works. This car is scheduled to drive from Las Vegas to CT on the 22nd.

Ok, well the trans immediately goes into limp mode now. The G195 isn't reporting shit and i'm getting the P0730 Incorrect gear ratio code. Now to figure that out....

At this point i'm thinking about getting another TCU and wiring harness as well as valvebody harness from the junkyard...but it looks like a PITA to remove.

Fix the output speed sensor and your problems should be done. Search up info on the trans rebuild. There are pdfs for this 5HP24 or 5HP19, whichever one this is. Use that to find out where the output speed sensor and associated connector are. Check out that situation.

How in the world was this thing working "fine" before engine pull, and then after install there are internal connectors unplugged? Doesn't add up. Was somebody in the trans?

We pulled the pan to change the filter. I think the input sensor was disconnected since the plug that went into the trans got pulled out of the trans a bit during the motor pull.

I tested the speed sensor with multimeter and it checks out. I also checked continuity of the harness in the transmisson. At this point i think i narrowed it down to the harness that goes into the cabin to the TCU or the TCU itself.

Another thing i noticed is the input speed sensor matches RPM in park. I wonder if that's supposed to be 0 when nothing is moving. This thing has me confused.

    FIXED.

One of the wires to the G195 was shitty inside the transmission plug harness. The wire appeared to be fine but it was only the insulation keeping the wire together. It was the small yellow wire that from pin 10 on the transmission plug to pin 44 at the tcu.
