I was changing my oil and this was lying on my brush guard where it connects to the driver's side wheel well. It has a contour that forms pretty closely to the wheel well but there's nothing to fasten it and nothing like it on the passenger's side.

what is it made out of plastic or foam? It looks like an impact crush piece. That was once glued somewhere. Has the bumper ever been off or something?

It's plastic. I have not removed the bumper or had any work done that should require doing so. I also still have my fog light grilles so I'm not sure that's it either...

Could be a support or brace piece for the front bumper or fender of sorts that helps to prevent flexing when driving and being hit by the air

Like suggested, can you see any partnumber on it or audi ring icon.
*maybe item dropped or picked up somehow while driving?

There's a number on it. No Audi logo. My car is in for service right now. I gave them the part but they didn't know where it came from. They looked up the number but it didn't return any results.

Might want to post the number once you are back (maybe somebody can double check).
I wouldn't worry too much...just check you purchase bill maybe if dealer didn't charge you for 'extra parts' :p
