    Track Wheel/Tire Set - TSW Nurburgrings in Matte Bronze - 19" x 8.5" +32mm offset - M

My order is still in progress but I wanted to share some pictures I just received from Alan at ModBargains of the wheels that just came in. I went with Matte Bronze as I thought it would be fun to do something different for a track wheel set. They look even more stunning than I imagined and I think they'll go nicely with my blacked out car.

I'm also getting Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's mounted and balanced on these wheels and then shipped to me ready to go from ModBargains. BTW, I can't say enough about how helpful and friendly Alan has been. It's the personal touch that he and the ModBargains team offers that is sure to make me a repeat customer. Who else would offer to send you pictures and then take the time to take many well staged photos?! Thanks Alan and ModBargains!

A few comments on the photos: I am going with the black low profile wheel weights, a nice touch and nice to have that option. Then the TSW's come with plastic hubcentric mounting rings which may melt on the track. Alan is tracking down some metal rings for me too, thanks again!

    Now on with the photos:

they are nice wheels + not very heavy. came REAL close to buying a set for my 2001 TT but like my cheap DR19 wheels with 1.5" lips, decent weight as well. mesh wheels are my favorites on sporty cars[IMG][/IMG]

I am certainly expecting better performance and longevity with the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's than I got with the from-the-factory ContiSportContact 3's. Those only lasted me 2 track weekends or 4 track days total. The fronts were worn down to the wear bars and partially corded and the rears were chunking, so off they went.

My OEM Ti 5-arm-rotors now have Michelin Pilot Super Sports on them and the car is smooth as can be on the streets. Very happy with the PSS both as a street tire and backup-track/rain-at-the-track tire.

I will pretty much be swapping these on/off the car before and after track days but I may have to give them a test run before my next track day in April (not sure I can wait that long)!

    ^Nice looking wheels!

I am working with Alan right now to get a set of Forgeline CF5 like QUA77RO had on his Avant before moving to Enkei or another brand. I am concerned with the offset on a 380mm Stoptech kit which fit nicely behind OEM Peelers, OEM Ti-Rotors and VMR RS4 reps in 19" diameter and 8" widths.

Wondering if your +32 ET on the TSW's is close to what I should get?

Cool wheel selection, Forgeline was in the running for me too.

So I know the +32 offset in my wheels worked for Joe (he has the same size TSW Nurbs). Just remember that every wheel has a different shape though so I don't think comparing offsets is enough. Unless you have a confirmed success story with matching BBK, wheel, and offset I would definitely have the wheels tested with a BBK template. Stoptech has the templates available for printing on their website and the templates need to be measured for accuracy once printed too. There really are variations between printers and you may need to try a few printers to get a good template to work from. Good luck and definitely post up some pics when you get the wheels!

I would source some metal hub centering rings instead of the plastic. I melted some on my track wheels. No problems with the aluminum ones I have now.

Definitely not running the plastics, thanks! I have heard of the melting issue from many now. This is the 'Nurburgring' wheel TSW, where's the metal hubcentric ring to match the name!!

Seriously though, Alan and I have already discussed and the metal rings are in the works.

    Nice.

Do you have tire carrier bags? I put my set of wheels/tires in my S5 to get them home from the tire place and while they fit after moving the drivers seat forward a bit from where I usually sit, it was really nice to have the rubber covered by the slick nylon so you can slide and/or reposition them easier. I also have wheel felts which sort of makes it easier as you don't have to worry as much about scratching things up - wheels or the inside of your car.

The S4 will likely be easier to load with 2 additional doors and probably more room overall - but the bags might still be a worthwhile investment.

Thanks! I had considered just driving these to the track and dealing with any slipperiness in case it rains. I may decide I should just have both sets on me at all times though in which case I will absolutely pick up the tire carrier bags (and try to save my interior). Thanks for the tip and are their any particular bags you prefer?

Also, you're correct that with the S4 this should be no issue, even with the rest of my track gear loaded up. The rear seats fold down fairly easily so I should have plenty of space for everything.

Nice wheels. I had the same setup on my old s5. Just make sure you get the wheels and tires balanced currently with the correct hubrings. I had major vibrations over 65+ mph when i had them on

thats my s5 on the mod bargains site

Thanks, I'll be sure to check/fix the balancing with the correct rings (though they should be the exact same sizes right?). And awesome that is your car!!! That picture was one of my motivations to go with this color combo, very cool. Thank you for the inspiration!

i had the correct rings and balanced correctly but still had vibrations. im sure its an isolated issue though because i know others that run this wheel that didnt have as much problems as me. its a great looking wheel, ull be happy. black + bronze combo is sexy as hell.

Anyone here considering the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R? I really liked the RE-11 on my Golf R and have been thinking what I might try them on the S4 after my PSS are done. I got my S4 used late fall and immediately put winters on. I hear many good things about the PSS's so we will see how they handle autocross in the hands of a meat-handed driver. The one big drawback of the RE-71R's that I can see will be wet performance. My RE-11 were amazing in the wet. Anyone else try RE-11 on their S4, if so I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Nice, another good option for the S4 and it comes in a 96 load index too. I hadn't seen this as available before you mentioned it, thanks. I am note sure if I would run them as dailies since they are described as "Bridgestone’s fastest DOT-legal street radial." It makes me think they are more geared towards the track but also happen to be DOT legal. These are probably similar to the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2's in that you can legally drive them on the street so long as you realize that traction may suffer in wet conditions.

This is what I was thinking too. They are currently labelled as extreme performance category but it almost seems like they should be in the streetable track and competition category.

Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to earn your business and for putting your trust in me with your build! The Matte bronze finish looks even sicker in person than they do in these pictures.

TSW supplied us with a set of plastic rings which is in the hardware box that you guys see. TSW stopped providing metal hub rings about a year ago. I'm doing what I can to source a set of metal rings for OldSport//.

Also, we make sure everything is balanced correctly prior to shipping anything out. Our mounting machine is a Ranger Touchless/Leverless machine, and our balancer is the top of the line Hunter GSP9700 with road-force computer balancing. Each wheel & tire order that we ship out or install locally for customers comes with a print-out showing the amount of wheel weights used on each wheel as well as a summary showing the balance is true

Feel free to pm, email me at [email protected], or give me a call at 714-582-3330 x 8006 if you guys have any questions at all!

Looks great, gold nurburgrings were the wheels I almost bought for my track set...and will definitely be the ones I go with . Perfect balance of cost, availability, fitment and performance for a track wheel that you won't run often.

You'll definitely be able to drive to/from events with those Cup 2 tires. Doubt it will affect the wear much, since for R-comps it's really about heat cycles, not miles. Only downside is running over a nail on the way or not being able to get home if you have a tire/wheel issue at the track. Putting them on at the track is probably the way to go.

wouldn't a set that didn't require hub rings be better for the track?

Good question, I think it would certainly be easier to not have to deal with the hub rings but I imagine this would greatly limit the selection of available wheels. I guess it would avoid any potential balance issues associated with the hub rings, which would be nice of course. Also though, I know others have had success at the track with wheels requiring hub rings so I am hoping for the same. Then I think part of the key is getting the metal rings in the correct sizes. We'll see!

Great choice for a track wheel- I went with a similar set up only in 18x9.5 in gunmetal mounted to PSS-

Nice wheels. I have the same set but in the mirror finish. I will have to look into getting some metal rings myself.
Consider getting better bolts too. The bolts the came with the wheels are garbage. Didn't last me past 2 seasons. Easily stripped and can mess up the female sleeve threads on your car if you're not careful.

There are still a decent amount of wheels to choose from. But these do fit the bill nicely. Great looking wheels, correct offset and width, lightweight and strong.

I have heard of a few people with vibrations from them, and a plastic hub ring won't last a single track day. I think drob melted his center caps on a track day, for example. But even BBS uses hub rings, not sure if they are metal or not, on their applications - and I've also never heard of issues of vibrations at speed from BBS owners.

I would highly recommend Neuspeed wheels for those interested in 18inch wheels - correct hub, lightweight, proper offsets and widths, very affordable.

Depending on budget, the mono BC forged wheels through the current group buy is hard to beat (for both 18 and 19inch options).

Is there a reason you didn't get the wider 19x9.5 ET41?
We've outfit a bunch in that size, and it fits great on the S4.
    You picked a great wheel!

Very light wheels for the money, clears BBK (19x9.5 et41). Love my wheels.

What size are the hub rings (OD not ID)

Thanks! A few folks have asked me about 9.5 inch widths which has me concerned I didn't think about it enough. Would 9.5's provide better grip at the track? Then is the S4 powerful enough to deal with any extra grip? I don't really know the answer and maybe its hard to answer because you can add grip in other ways and more power too.

Last question, would there be issues fitting 265/35/19's with 19 x 9.5's?

A lot to think about and others might benefit from further thoughts here.

Tire availability in each size may be a factor too. I saw the MPSC2's were available, then knew PSS and r888's were an option (that's pretty good selection for me!). Then I recently saw Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R's may work too, sweet if so.

Alan told me I need 72 OD 66.56 ID (haven't verified) but hasn't had any luck sourcing them yet, bummer. Then TSW apparently used to include metal rings but now only stocks and includes plastic rings, again that's a bummer and I really don't know how it makes sense for them to sell a 'Nurburgring' wheel with plastic hub centric rings.

I did receive 3 of the 4 wheels tonight (UPS somehow separated them and then couldn't explain why it happened) and unpacked one. It looks amazing and I can't wait to get the ring issue resolved so I can take them for a spin!! Some friends and I are planning a hill country barbecue run in a few weeks and hopefully I can run these, we'll see! (Would rather wait for resolution than try the plastics out)

    More pics to follow!

The S4 is heavy... you can easily use more mechanical grip than can reasonably be acquired. 9.5s help hold the shape of a 265 better than an 8.5" wide wheel. There are potential fitment issues in either size depending on the tire and suspension setup but they're relatively minor to overcome.
