Exhaust Question - APR, Mototec, Billy Boat

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Everyone,

Quick question on exhausts. I've done a lot of searching where people say that APR, Mototec, and BB exhausts are all the same / similar:

    Links:
    1. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...6-Exhaust-Sale
    2. http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post5356978

My question is this in fact true? As far as I know, there are slight differences between all 3 exhausts, but maybe the same manufacturer is making the exhausts for all 3 brands?

Anyway, just looking for some more information on the topic. I was trying to see if there is any website or detailed analysis confirming if this is in fact the case.

    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks,
    Asif

I dont know what kind of info you are looking for but I went with Billy Boat Stealth because I found it for 850 shipped. Its quiet enough for my liking and well built. Install was pretty straight forward with the car on ramps. Hope this helps.

I went will BB as well....(because of price and I liked the tips) We I went to install it the build sheet had APR printed all over it. The BB exhaust looks and sounds great!! I was very happy because my bro had gotten an APR one and paid more!!

I have the BB Sport, very pleased with the sound - no noticeable drone at highway speeds and a nice sound all around. I had a BB on my Vette, it held up well over the 10+ years that I had the car (although that one did have a very noticeable drone at 55 MPH/1200RPM).

Install was easy on ramps, and I liked the way the tips filled out the cutouts.

I picked up a mototec catback a little over a year ago for $735 shipped! Had a billy boat badge welded to it and came with billy boat paperwork, just had mototec written on the exhaust tips. Can't tell you if apr's exhaust is made by them as well but that's what I've heard.

APR sourced the exhaust out to Billy Boat. APR then switched over to Corsa Performance Exhausts for the B8 models. There's no difference between the APR and the Billy Boat exhausts except for what's stamped/etched on it.

I have APR's stealth exhaust. Love the note and very quiet around town when driving casually. I only wish mine held up better. I've had the exhaust crack in two at the weld seams leading into the center resonator (whole exhaust was replaced back then). Later had a giant hole in the top back of the center resonator (replaced), then had it replaced again when something happened to cause the internal baffles to break loose and partially block exhaust flow. Also had the flex pipe crumble apart. Guess the salty roads of Ohio is too harsh on the system.

Even with all of that grief, I still think it's the best sound from all aftermarket options. The warranty claim process has been a pain to deal with (usually 3+ months wait to get replacement part). If something happens again, I may consider something custom.

AWE exhaust all the way. Never had any issues and it still looks brand new after 6 years of use.

I have seen many threads related to the quality of the BB/APR exhausts to know that I would stay away from them.

If you want something decent in the lower price range then build your own kit. There are many that have and they really enjoy them.

Installed my Mototec Sport catback back in 2012, a great price... no quality issues as far as exhaust leaks, flex pipe shielding came off tho.
Backboxes still polish up nice in the summer.
