    Vacuum line broke

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So while fixing my oil leak from the filter housing gasket I managed to put to much pressure on the hard vacuum line that goes from the brake booster to the vacuum pump and over to the abs i think. Its the plastic fitting to the small pipe that snapped off. I looked all over the place and i cant find the damn part so can someone tell me what the name of this thing is or give a link to one.

I used that part as a illustration of the part you can use. You mite have to search around for the proper size. I used this technique as few times on other things on cars

Oh ok. Might try that. Should i seal it with anything like silicon or jb weld or just thread it in and go? Also what does that small hard line go to.

I used the same principle and fittings on some coolant housings and they worked great without any sealant. Really never payed attention to were that line goes to

Just put a piece of used chewing gum underneath the broken nipple to seal it. No damage will occur. Did you the oil yet and filter yet. When you take the coolant from the adapter housing. Some coolant gets into the oil. Intermix is a no-no running these things.

Yeah i drained the oil into a clean bucket first. Then put it back in after putting everything back together. Are you saying coolant could have made it down into the oil while doing this job? I havent started it yet since putting it back together.

Depends if you the oil cooler from the housing or you just disconnected the hoses from the cooler and removed it as an assembly. If you removed as assembly. Your good to go.

I plugged the vac lines with gum, started it, got it off the ramps, bled coolant, checked oil. Everything looks good no leaks so far. Now to fix that stupid little fitting.

I traced the line past the abs, up behind the power steering reservoir and into the fender. From there not a clue... For now I have the hole on the bottom of the brake booster vac line plugged where it snapped off, and the hose itself plugged. Not getting any codes or anything.

My part just broke in the exact same spot. If someone figures out the right size fitting to use, please post it.

I have a feeling it goes to a sensor of some sort. I've had a check engine light on since mine broke.

I know this is old but i'm confused - What part has actually broken?

I'm going to change that vacuum line soon and that loose line in the picture doesn't seem to be on mine. Does it connect to the bottom of the bit of the vacuum line that goes into the firewall? Pretty sure mine has nothing there...

Edit - Looks like there's a little green cap on that bit.

Edit - Looking at photos online that disconnected line in the OP photo IS indeed connected to the vaccuum / booster line at the firewall.. I'm so confused. My car is RHD so maybe that has something to do with it..

Yet another edit - I had a look and that green cap doesn't seem to want to come off and there is no cap on the replacement one i purchased.. Anyone any idea why mine is different and if that green cap comes off the old one to put on the new one or perhaps i got the wrong part..

Makes me wonder how they do the evap test.

i think the theory is that vacuum is applied to the gas tank ( from this source ) . then it is measured to see if it can hold vacuum. this is how they know the system is sealed.

I wonder if this car has a separate vacuum pump for this test ?

i would just get a piece of rubber hose, tie it off and put it over the nipple .. dont need and fancy cap.
