    Registration help in PA

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Quick question that I have not been able to definitively find online. I will be here for about 6 months but my cars registration (Oregon registered) is expiring this month. Can I register my car in PA without getting a PA drivers license? I have read that I need a PA license if I'm going to be here for more than 60 days but that seems kind of silly since I will be moving again in a few months... (I may have just answered my own question in that last sentence). Can anyone confirm?

My GF works at a dealer in PA…the definitive answer is NO. You will need a PA license and a PA address to be able to get your car registered in PA

Why not just renew your Oregon registration online and have your tags mailed to you? You should be able to do it all online. That seems to be the easiest option if you will only be in state for a few months.

Its a a bit of a peculiar situation. I moved here for school but one thing led to another and now i'm transferring to arizona state. I'd rather wait to do it all in Arizona but it looks like ill have to figure something out sooner than that. Thanks for the clarification!

Since you said you'd be in PA for ~6 months, I'd just renew the Oregon reg online to keep it current since it expires this month, then when you move to Arizona, transfer it all to there if that's what you want to do.

Yeah, you should have no problem doing that. They don't know that you don't intend on returning.

I've always been curious about this. So if a person maintains a permanent residence in another state, but keeps a vacation home and car in PA, what do they do then?

My understanding is that you only have to register your car if you are planning on being in PA for more than 60 days. I guess depending on how long you plan on vactioning you can keep your car registered in your home state. Maybe. PA also has some sort of seasonal registration.
