Low Oil?????? Is this normal?

Hey there guys! Happy Friday

So, those with 3.0T... I had my car serviced (standard oil change and rotation) on 03Oct2014. Today Exactly 4,400 miles later, I got the low quart notification/light.

Now, I drive a little hard, and warm my car up in the am (No garage, and for the kid it was 8 degrees F here in MD today).

Is this normal consumption?

Of note, my dealer said happens all the time and to swing on by and they'll top it off...

Honestly- its not normal. If it was a 2.0T, yes- they are infamous for burning oil. I haven't had any oil issues for all the 31k miles I have driven my car. It has even seen a track day.

I have a 2013 3.0t and it's been quite a while since my 15k service, but 8000 miles later and damn near a year, no noticeable oil consumption. At most, I allow the engine RPMs to settle before I take off, but I don't even do that as much now based on everything i've read about modern engines.

Nope. It shouldn't. Gasoline is the only oil it should consume. If the dealership says "its normal"- you need to leave them.

FWIW, my wife has a 2013 Q7 3.0T and she made it to 23,900 miles after her 15K oil change before the low oil light turned on. She got her prepaid 25K service a little early and the dealer wasn't concerned. My wife is not lead-footed like we are.

Some oil consumption is one thing; enough to trigger the light less than 5k is another. The problem now is determining whether you have a leak or if your engine is just burning oil at an abnormal rate.

Could be a pcv valve issue. Replaced mine at 28.6k after seeing it had consumed almost a quart in 3000 miles, have done 1200 miles and not burned a drop since. Not sure if the c7s have this problem but I've heard some people with b8 s4's have had high oil consumption like you have described.

Dealer said it was 1/2 quart low... Said they have people coming back all the time. Oh, and it was 6300 miles.

Sigh... Love my car, but I'm seriously being seduced by a pretty sepang blue black optic SQ5...

S6/A6 seats three across the back, I've had two forward full harness and one infant rear facing, all in the back at the same time. No problems

Have one boy now... 2.5 years old, and shooting for #2 in a couple months.

I'm sure I could pull it off in the A7 if I had too, but I've never had a Brand new car before and it would be kind of cool, and the SQ5 perfectly fits my budget @ $60k...

I've driven both, I would stay with the A7.

I think if you go to the compact SUV you will lose your cool factor. My inlaws have the Q5, and its okay, I am sure the SQ5 would be fast, but you will find it too small if you ever had a third. I have three daughters so the Q7 was still too small for us as far as an SUV was concerned, the SQ5 would have been impossible. Ended up getting a Jap SUV and then the S6. You could get a nice used S6 for around 60 now, more headroom than the 7 and like I said, seating for three across the back. Oh, and lots of zoom zoom.

There is an updated Crankcase pressure regulating valve for the 3.0T. Big campaign coming out soon to replace it, thermostat and fuel injector seals.

My rs7 just had low oil at 13,500 kms and I went to the dealer and they topped it up. A message popped up in MMI, oil level low and the bar was to minimum. Is it normal? If not why does the car consume oil? Dealer said its normal.

Same exact thing happened to me... Lol.thought it was just a 3.0t issue
