    battery replacing concerns

i have a 04 a6 that needs a new battery a friend told me im better off going to the dealer to get it done because my radio and power windows, door locks etc can reset and not work anymore. the only problem is that the dealership is charging $194 plus tax plus a $20 core charge (which i get back) and $100 labor to swap the battery out.
$330 is what im looking at with taxes after im refunded the core deposit. i dont want to pay them $100 for 10 min of work.
i dont mind buying the battery from them but im looking for another solution to install it myself. anybody have any experience or tips

my battery died a couple weeks ago, the radio was locked out, all i needed was the SAFE code in the manual and worked perfect after that, power windows stopped working for like a day and then they were back to normal, no problems noticed with door locks

I wouldn't do that. Check for your radio code, and if you have it youre fine. Switch them out like usual. The door locks/windows will be fine. I've changed mine twice. If you don't have the code, often time Audi will supply it for free. No sense paying all that money for a battery change dude.

I found my radio code after looking thru a bunch of papers. I was just concerned about the door locks and everything else but I'm just going to give it a try

A few years ago I hook my battery cables to a jump box to install a new battery and didn't have to reset anything.

I used my booster box jumpered through the lighter socket with no issues.

As a side note, I purchased Walmart Maxx H8 batteries for both my S6 and A6 (it's only listed for the S6, but it fits & works fine in both vehicles). It's under $125 with a 3 year full replacement warranty ... a no-brainer in my books ... http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-...ttery/16782659

You need a new friend, as this one is broken.

EDIT: the worst thing that will happen to the windows is that one touch up or down won't work. To reset that, put them all the way down. Release the button then press and hold the button down again. You'll hear a faint click. Now roll them all the way up. Release the button then pull and hold the button until you hear a click again. Now you should find one touch works again. Do the same for the other windows. Job done.
