    Lucas full synthetic oil stabilizer

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was at an auto parts store recently getting oil change stuff and was talking to an attendant there (older gentlemen) and I was discussing how i think my turbo might be burning a little oil. He recommended Lucas full synthetic oil stabilizer. He told me that its good for the bearings in the turbo yata yata.. Seeing what yall's thoughts were on this stuff.

Hmm, you're both actually righ.../wrong. It's one thing if I'm going to talk about my driveway snowblower or if there's more explaining to do. Try me, while I'm in a position to let you.

K03 have journal bearings, the Lucas helps keep the oil 'stuck' to them. It probably wont hurt.

I've used it in many different vehicles including both of my current cars with no ill effects. I also run Rotella T6.

Motul is decent oil, spendy for the same performance as the rotella. Mobil shears out reeealy fast and I don't recommend it for Audi turbo cars.

If your turbo is smoking OP there isn't a lot you can do if the seals are bad. The stabilizer might mitigate it a little if you're running an oil like Mobil that shears really fast in our cars.

Castrol when I get it on sale, even GC@$25/gallon once in a while. Rotella? Maybe I should, I'll take your word...would be so much easier.

It's a full synthetic intended for turbo diesel engines so our lil 1.8ts just love it. Makes em purrrrr. Absolutely superb stuff.

    I know you're right...awesome.

Edit: I meant to imply that otherwise I use Mobile1 synthetic. They're both never the cheapest, but more expensive than Rotella for me here...

I switched from Liquimoly to Rotella T6. The rotella has significantly reduced oil burning.

Wow, People on te motorgeek forum talk up the T6 for their older 5 cylinders but damn looks like its good for all the audi's. Looks like I'll be making a switch soon. The turbo isn't making any smoke but I do have to put a qt in every 2000 miles of so.

I have used some Lucas stuff before in small quantities, mostly to add some thick holding oil in our -30*C winter starts

I ran T6 in my 2.0T, my passat 1.8T and my current B6 will be getting a fresh 4.5 liters as well this weekend.

FWIW, I generally run Rotella T6, but due to the winter I switched to GC 0-40. Makes start ups a little less easy and quite.

T6 has a new 0w40 oil since last summer! Hit or miss finding it though, as I was able to grab a jug for my '11 2.0T Tiguan, but when i looked around again could only find the 5w40 for my A4

My only problem is and I've said this a lot is that T6 is only SM rated where Motul is SN rated -SN being the highest oil rating at the moment, motul is also the official maker of the VW specification oils. Castrol is SN but I don't have experience with it, that titanium stuff may be worth a look. I've seen several cars run mobile 1 their entire lives and they are always coated in yellow varnish, including my own 2001 galant. I'd recommend staying away from it for that reason. Motul is really made to work with diesels as well but is designed for turbo motors. I get 5 liter jugs for around 30 bucks at CarQuest. This is my 2 cents on the matter. Oil stabilizer? For burning oil? hm. That bearing is worn... It's only getting worse and when you start noticing the oil loss it's soon to go. You may limp on it for a while but it's gonna blow.

Mobile 1 is factory fill for some very impressive and expensive motors. I think if it's "good enough" for Porsche, the high powered Benz AMGs, Aston, ect, ect.....it's just fine in our Audi's.

Yellow varnish? Be more interested in the life and other environments of those cars. Far from scientific methodology there.

I don't touch anything Shell, but the first most important step is to use oil that meets the required specifications of the manufacturer, not just what you like. I generally stick with Mobile 1 and Castrol if I can, and have not had to deviate yet.

T6 and Motul are not even close to the same, this topic has been covered many times and I highly suggest everyone who hasn't read this thread in full. T6 is a group 3 oil while motul is a group 5 which is the highest grade of oil that is ester based, group 3 oils are actually conventional oils marked as synthetics because they under go some special process. Its all covered in this thread which is a great read. But to sum up Motul is hands down the best. What is best for each car all depends on the driver and type of driving they do and how that car is cared for, each car is different the only way to know is to get your oil tested.
