    Choosing a ko4 tune

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know this has been covered many times and reading posts but I don't know why I'm so indecisive. One person says this is the best tune another says it's thr worst. Seems it comes down to personal preference. What made it easier for you to choose your ko4 tune. Hope I don't get bashed for making a new thread but I just don't know what route to go . 02 b6 a4 1.8t 3 inch tip cat delete carbonio intake fmic ko4 manual trans.

why delete cat? pointles.... APR is the tune you want. It's Audi specific, you drive and Audi. Also if Audi offers a part, get that. I love my APR exhaust. Just get a tune, whatever it is.

A cat delete, aka testpipe or high-flow cat, offers a sizable performance gain. Why do you say it is pointless?

APR doesnt make your exhaust Billy Boat does, APR simply slaps their logo on it and charges more.

The APR is rock solid, I highly doubt there is a better turn key solution.

I like my APR tune, but if I were to do it again now, I would probably get Motoza. Have a few friends with Motoza and they love it.

    Agree

I bought the car with an APR tune but if I were to purchase one it would be Motoza. APR is an off the shelf tune. It's not specific to your mods like Motoza is. Dave@Motoza tries to dial in the tune specifically to your mods and sends you revisions to the tune. On top of that, Motoza is cheaper. Seems like a no brainer to me.

I believe APR sells 4 programs for 699 I don't see why I would need the other octane files I only use 93. Places ive called only sell the 699 basically forcing me to buy other programs I won't use. That's my only gripe with the apr tune. Is the motoza tune cheaper? Will it require the 386 tt injectors or the 440 with vr6 maf housing like the United motorsports tune does. And going with 440 and vr6 maf oppose to just adding tt injectors create more power?

I only have the stage 1 from Motoza but I love it and I'm sure Dave's k04 tuning abilities are amazing too.

I'd go Motoza. I plan on going stage 1 with them. I mean custom tune to your vehicle over a generic tune that everyone has i'd go with custom tune anyday.

If you buy APR tunes when they aren't on sale though, you're a dummy. They go on sale 3-4 times a year.

And the program switching is a great feature in theory, but in practice I've only switched off my 91 octane tune once, when I wanted to see what the 93 octane tune was like, then I switched back and never touched it since.

The CEL clearing and throttle body adaptation abilities are nice but nothign I can't do with my vagcom, or Motoza's software.

Motoza offers a switching program that allows you to change from economy, 91, 93 or 100 octane maps. You can use your Android phone to switch at any time as long as the vehicle is at idle and isn't moving. You can also monitor functions similar to a Torque Pro app and do a few basic things like read and clear codes and perform a TBA.

I should also note that you can even log and record your ECM, send it to Dave for evaluation and then receive and download a new program all from your cell phone. Pretty neat!

Edit: CP... Notice that I said Android and not that silly iphone stuff....

I have APR. Had GIAC. IMO APR mo better tuned...more smooth and refinded...especially with the spikey K04.
I have the cat delete file. GIAC no offer such cause they are based in the Peoples Republic of California. The file works as advertised! No need for spacers and no CEL from absent cat! Motoza is more user tunable...

Exactly. Like custom wheels or custom paint or blah blah blah.

Motoza Tune is about as custom as asking to hold the mayo on a burger. Is it different yes, is it custom NO.

This. Plus the limiting factor is the K04 turbo. Any tune (if written well) will make the same (no more than X) power.

I never used the word "custom". The tune is still specific to your car. Not all of our cars run the same and if there's tweaks that can be done they will be. You get an off the shelf tune like APR and you're done. Whether your car runs good or it runs like shit, there's no tweaks that will be made, ever. Regardless, the point here is not about "custom", it's what's the better option for a tune. Motoza is cheaper and there's many people happy with their tune. Do you like your tune from Motoza?

lots of passat guys use unitronic.

it all comes down to how much money you're willing to spend on a tune that is going to get you about the same results as another one :D

I originally had a stage 1 APR tune put on my car when I first bought it. Easy peasy, my car felt like it woke up. Then I did the K04 upgrade with injectors and Kinetic manifold. The move to the APR K04 tune was easy since it was just a $200 upgrade (fully loaded CPU) because I was already an APR customer. My car runs great, very smooth with no hiccups. Even now during the dead cold of winter here in Toronto the car runs without any issue. No regrets sticking with APR, just turn the key and drive.

I've had giac ko4 for about 9 years. Cat went out so instead of replacing AGAIN, I bought a test pipe. Sent my ecu to United motorsports for their stage 2 ko4 file w/cat delete. United's ko4 tune Uses 440cc injectors, which by the way are way cheaper than 386 tt's, and vr6 Maf, so also had to get a new 034 turbo inlet pipe to accommodate the bigger maf. Price wise it's about the same as buying a new oem cat. At least I'll never have to worry about a cat replacement anymore. Ecu goes in the car tomorrow. Super excited to see how it drives.

Price wise it's about the same as buying a new oem cat. At least I'll never have to worry about a cat replacement anymore. Ecu goes in the car tomorrow. Super excited to see how it drives.
Let me know what you think I did talk to united motorsports curious to know how it feels

Regardless, the point here is not about "custom", it's what's the better option for a tune. Motoza is cheaper and there's many people happy with their tune. Do you like your tune from Motoza?
You said tuned for specific mods. This is very debatable. Our ecus adjust timing and boost based on intake air temps, air mass, coolant temps, the works. U think Dave's really considering your fmic? Or is it the ecu?

    My experience with motoza.
They forgot to send injectors for 2 weeks. Then I had to wait another week to hear back with my non existent revision. You can't reach them by phone. Total pita if you're having tech problems with motoza ps. Dave said he would have an e85 tune by thx giving. Emailed him a couple times and never heard back. The tune is good, but nothing more than you would get from an off the shelf. I was fooled into thinking otherwise. Look at their website lol. Super custom yo.

The truth is.You need alot of staff to take care of hundreds of ppls problems and tuning desires. Motoza is very small and incapable of addressing everyo,es needs. They made a promise they cant keep.

If I we're to do it again, I'd go with revo.

That's very unfortunate to hear but I did speak with Dave he very good about answering my questions even some off topic ones just like two friends speaking even though I've never met him. Some may say this is just a ploy to gain my business but I have been having a boosting issue which I have posted in another thread, most of the responses have been saying I have a boost leak which I do not, he has helped me diag the issue reading my logs pointing me in the right direction. I'm not even a customer yet but for him to take the time read the logs and respond I am very grateful I don't think apr would do that. I hope after I tune if I have a problem he will help me again but I dont see why he wouldn't.

He did the same for me. Service was fantastic, until I actually bought it! I'd be happy to send you our email correspondence. Its embarrassing on motozas part. They offered me a t shirt as some kind of reparation. Which I refused.

Do what you please, but this is my honest advice; if You have time to mess around, go with motoza. The suite or whatever they call it actually can give you a lot of info. I use the logs and make graphs in excel which can he nice for basic diagnosis of driveability Issues. If You want someone to talk to on the phone, and not have to email someone 3x and eventually threaten them to get a response (Yes, it had to threaten them about exposing it on the forum. They emailed me in 20 mins later with a t shirt apology. ) go with motoza.

I totally forgot how awful their customer service was after I purchased. It was shocking. They ran out of injectors, and sent the kit out anyways and didn't even mention they didn't have anymore 550cc genesis ev15l4 injectors, still charging my card 200$ for the things. I emailed 3x just to find out they ran out od my damn injectors. Then they ran outside of usb drives. Story goes on. It took a month to have all the things necessary to run his "specifically tuned 1+ file". Bunch of bull.

Wow I had no idea. You're emails are not required I believe you. So revo will do the same thing as updating my tune and helping me if I have issues? Will I have to send my ecm out or can we just flash via laptop?

Revo has dealers. Usually Indy shops. I'm sure if u go on the revo website they should have a list of dealers in your area. I've heard good things about United motorsport and unitronic. Revo has settings your dealer can adjust tho which is why I would lean towards them. Plus your dealer can help you diagnose issues. But I'm sure they'll charge you an hourly rate.

Hey VAGlover, did you ever hear back from Dave about a E85 Tune? I don't plan on using it until the spring when it gets warmer, but I need to figure out if I should use Motoza still, or do the Nefmoto- tunerpro route and do it on my own.
