    Hi,

Is there a DIY to make something like this? How do you feel about this mod, is it too much Chrome?

Too much chrome for our cars. Not to mention, 9 times outta 10, they look tacky and faded over time. If it's going on a car that you only plan on putting <2000 miles a year then go for it.

Good to know. Good point about the durability, could fade. Sadly I don't put more than 2,000 miles a year on the car.....

This doesn't look so bad, maybe it depends on the car color.

    I used this stuff^

Not my photo, credit goes to doowopaudi, I did the same thing to my grill, less the fog grills. I actually like the way it looks. I however have the chrome around my windows though.

Thanks for the compliment Ego Trip, I am currently not running this set-up, but after looking at it, I may go back and sport it for a few months.

Original Poster, I used this product from AutoZone and it works very well! Don't pay more than $15 for this product and make sure you get the right size (1/8"). ECS sells a similar kit for over $100!!!! That's crazy! First that and most recently the LED Interior Light Kit! These are low priced mods and you shouldn't be paying more than $20 for this mod. Don't worry about it fading, it's made well and I imagine will last through rough weather conditions. I also placed some chrome molding on the mirror trim and it's been holding up fine since late 2013.

    Thanks Doowupaudi!

I tired it out too! I don't think it looks bad nor makes it look completlty diferent. I am going to make a DIY for this. I'm also going to offer this as a product, priced at $19.99 shipped for members of this Audizine. The kit will come will the 7 strips to do your grill + 1 extra long one to cover any that might have issues down the road. Or you can use it on your mirrors. I can also do red, blue and gold chrome strips, but it will cost $5 extra.

I'm looking to do some durability tests also. So far, It's lasted 3 months on my car with no problems, but it won't hurt to have others try it out. The first 2 people that respond to this post will be sent free kits, in silver chrome. All I ask in return is that you send me a picture of it on your car and let me know what comments you have.

Did you have any issues getting the chrome strips to stick on the fog light cover? When you removed them, was there any residue?

I never removed the chrome strips. I simply removed the entire grille assembly (main grille and fogs) and am running the rs4 grille set up.

Added chrome strips on the fog covers. Looks more complete this way. Just having the chrome strips in the center didn't look right. It's a lot of chrome, and perhaps too many horizontal lines.

I just picked up an s4 grille. Much better than sticking on chrome strips and wont deteriorate.

i've got the chrome strips on mine, kept it to just the grille, looks too much on the fogs IMO. i've had them for over 3 years, and switched them out once like a year ago, and may put some fresh strips on later. they do get faded a little and chipped up, but only if you look up close, from normal distance they look good and still shine, but no issues with the adhesive and they haven't started to come off or anything like that.

i do like the look of the S4 grille though and been planning to get that, but this looks decent IMO, adds a nice contrast on the grille when not overdone. i bought like a big roll of chrome strip from autozone for like $14 and still have the same roll from 3+ yrs ago, prob only used like 1/4 of it. i've got the original alu window trim and the chrome grille trim so this goes well with the rest of the trim and emblem, i'd only remove them if i blacked out the chrome grille trim.

I just added the chrome strip to my grill last month. When you take them off. Do the chrome break apart from the foam adhesive due to aging? And you're left with some bits of the foam stuck inside the grill depression? I hope not.

I had the 3M chrome strips from your regular auto-store. Looked amazing for the first year. Started to dull after the second year. Then this past fall the thin protective film on top of the chrome was flaking off, and it just looked inconsistent. Took it all off in about 20 minutes after work one day. When I removed it, the chrome/actual bulk of the strip came off first (very easily). Then I went back with an X-Acto blade and gently lifted the ends of the adhesive pads and tried to peel off in the longest pieces possible; if you get the pull angle right, you can get a whole strip off in one go.

That said, I actually like how muted it is now. Nice change.

For reference on wear rate, I live in KC (very seasonal-dependent weather) and put about 35K mi on the strips.
