Installing coilovers; what other hardware should be changed?

    Hi guys,

I just received a set of ST coilovers, and will be installing them as soon as the weather turns. Having said that, what other hardware is required when installing the coilover suspension? See the two links below from ECS, are these parts needed/suggested to be replaced?

    Front upper strut mount

    rear suspension install kit

    rear shock mount, alone

What did you guys/your mechanics use when installing your coilovers?

I highly recommend changing out the strut mounts.. I've had to re-do the coilover job because those were shot and was causing a really obnoxious creak when going over uneven grounds at a slow speed.

So you mean only the front strut mounts? Not the rear shock mount as well?

Yup, I definitely will spray all of the parts in there, and the coilovers as well in a liner coating.

I didn't replace anything when i did mine and its been 50,000 trouble free miles, the only hardware you need to replace is included with the ST's (top nuts).

If you're planning on a very aggressive drop you may want to consider front adjustable upper control arms to get the camber/alignment within spec.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll end up ordering the front strut mounts just for the heck of it. Roads here are absolutely horrific, so it won't be a very aggressive drop.

FYI, use a wax-based lubricant for the threaded portion of the coilovers, it works much better than petroleum based lubes. Something like Boeshield T-9

This may be my problem I have when turning into my driveway, although it has gotten a lot better since replacing control arm bushes.

I actually got a used set of coilovers, so which part are you referencing exactly?

Good tip. On my last ride, I did use a standard petroleum based lubes, and I've heard quite a few people suggesting that I slather the threads in axle grease. The Boeshield seems quite expensive for the amounts. Why do you suggest this, and how does it perform in winter conditions?
