Weird thing happened on my way to work.

Alright so I hope this is just a case of bad gas but I was on my way to work this morning and I was rolling from a stop and accelerating and either in 2nd or 3rd gear there was a "bump" of some sort that happened but I felt it through the gas pedal and it slightly jolted my car. It did it again while accelerating from a stop a couple mile after the first time. This time i felt 3 or 4 of these "bumps." I took it real easy every time I accelerated from a stop from then on but it didn't do it again. I couldn't pinpoint if it was an engine issue or transmission/transfer case issue. Anyone experienced this madness before?

I had this issue before and it was related to one of the coil packs going bad.

I kinda thought that too, like a cylinder had dropped for a second.

I'd vote mounts. A misfire wouldn't make an audible clunk...

It wasn't really "audible." It was a slight jolt slowing my car down for a split second. I felt it through my gas pedal too.

Sounds like a misfire to me but I'm assuming you don't have a CEL since you didn't mention it? Sounds like it's only happening when under boost? This describes my symptoms when I first had a coil pack go but if I would get a CEL if I made it happen 3-4 times consecutively.

It's important you re-iterated the "thump" isn't audible.

Yea it happened while boosting. It hasn't happened again. I do have a CEL on due to a short to ground at the VVT connection and the upper coolant temp connection at the rear flange. I need to get that fixed since having this damn CEL on isn't helping my gas mileage. I was going to convert to the R8 coils eventually. If I remember correctly you have to trim some rubber to get those to work I think.

Seems like a misfire to me. Scan to see if you have any misfire codes. Then pull the related coils and plugs. Replace if needed.

Have you scanned since this happened to see if you have P030? code? If you do, swap said coil to another cylinder to see if you can replicate the symptom and rescan to see if it changes cylinders but again, to me it sounds like a coil.

I have R8 coil packs right now. Furly replaced mine for me, just use blade to cut rubber boot from the old pack and slide on to the new pack and oila

I'm running 07k coil packs, similar to the R8 ones. They're better than the regular b6 coil packs for sure.

At one point I remember reading a thread about the proper way to do that. The search is on!

I think the write up for swapping the boot out expired. It's the boot at the top correct? not the one at the end inside the coil?
