Should I swap out non s-line suspension for s-line?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am trying to get away from the 4x4 look that my non s-line b8.5 has and was curious to see if there were any benefits (other than price) to installing the s-line suspension rather than purchasing coils? I kind of like the idea of keeping everything OEM, as custom parts often create custom problems, but am not sure if the s-line setup is an improvement over what I currently have. I am also afraid that I would void the suspension portion of my warranty if I go with an aftermarket setup. I don't need to worry about a TD1 flag if I start messing with the suspension do I?

I'm actually putting H&R Sport springs on my car tomorrow. If you're interested, I'll sell you my 2015 a4 S-line springs (2,500 miles on them) very cheap. They're a bit stiffer and a tad lower than what you've got now if you're only looking for a minimumal drop and to keep OEM. PM if interested.

    And no...you won't get a TD1 because it's nothing computer related.

just save up your money and get coilovers...adjustable unlike springs..imo rides better..s line will honestly look the same its barely a drop...not worth the price of the springs and the cost it will be to install them...also beware aftermarket lowering springs will cut the life of your shocks significantly

you wont get td1 for coilovers..ive gone to get my car serviced and have warranty issues fixed when i was really slammed..they never told me anything other than it looks great...the only way they can deny you warranty is if the coilovers were a direct cause of the failure...with anything you gotta pay to play...im going on 35k on my coilovers without any issues

I think most folks on here will recommend coils, and for good reasons, as I can definitely see why. I have no idea if TD1 would come into play for warranty service, others may offer advise here. I too, however, was in the same boat as you a few years ago and wanted to stay with the OEM look, not go too low, and keep the everyday ride "comfort" virtually the same for the wife/kid. I ended up purchasing OEM sport springs, struts, and shocks from the Classifieds here for about $400 and did the install with a few buddies of mine using the DIY instructions posted on here. At the time, we also added a sport rear sway bar and some wheel spacers. I will say the look of the new stance and the handling was a major improvement over the non-sport and well worth it! When I traded in my 2009 in Dec, I made sure I got an A4 with the sport package this time, as I didn't really want to go through the transformation again. I personally could never go back to a non-sport A4.

Non-sport wheel gap is around 60mm. S-Line/Sport only drops it 20mm. So S-Line/Sport doesn't even cut the stock 4x4 like gap in half. Visually it is a very small change. An untrained eye wouldn't even notice a difference. If you plan to lower, at least use H&R OE sport springs (with sport shocks) which offer a 30mm drop, essentially eliminating half the wheel gap. That is a more impactful overall change. Or just get coil overs so you can set the height to your liking.

If you're willing to wait I'm installing Coilovers in about a week and will have a set of H&R Sport Springs that I will be looking to get off my hands, just make me an offer and they're yours. They offer a 1.5 inch drop all around.

I'd be interested in looking at what you'd be looking to get for either the s-line or the H&R. PM me.

As his been mentioned and I can tell you from experience, don't go aftermarket springs. If they are not designed to work with your current dampers (especially the non-sport), they will overwork your shocks and your ride will become bouncy. The OEM Sport, S-Line, etc. suspension will improve your car's handling with minimal loss of ride quality however, as has also been mentioned, it will not give you an aggressive lowered look. I agree that coil-overs are the way to go. Many have raved about the Solowerks. They are on the lower end price wise and evidently designed with aesthetics and ride quality in mind over performance. I purchased the Stassis Ohlins coil-overs right before Stassis went belly up but the handling and composure are quite amazing (but they do let you know when your driving over angry roads). Plus the dampers are designed to be rebuilt. Otherwise, I have heard Bilstein PSS10s and KWVarients are amongst the top in the market. No matter which coil-overs you choose, the advantage is that the system is adjustable giving you the opportunity to actually choose your ride height. The dampers are designed for the springs in the kit and on top of all this, it gives you the opportunity to corner balance your car, providing equal weight on each corner. Then when you turn your wheel, the car is even in both directions. At least that is how it was explained to me. When you do swap your suspension, you will want to get an alignment. By the way, adding the proper upgraded sways and adjustable end links (love the Eurocodes) will turn your car into a twisty road ninja!

If you pay shipping you can have my OEM sport springs and rear sway bar. Got rid of the car and the parts are just taking up space.

I went with H&R OE Sport paired with Koni Yellow shocks. A slightly lower drop then the audi sport stock springs.

I wanted a lower look and better handling. Also, I was not interested in adjustability so stayed away from coil overs.

Have been very satisfied with the look and the drop. I agree with the post above. Do not replace your springs with aftermarket springs on stock shocks/dampers. I did this and regretted it. The car became very bouncy and uncomfortable. The Koni's add just the right amount of performance and comfort.

FTR. I've installed H&R Coilovers and the ride is very stiff. I'm fine with it, but my wife complains a lot about the jarring effect of bumps.

The B12 pro kit is eibach pro kit springs, and Bilstein sport shocks. Give a 1.2" drop. Closes the gap. Improves handling. Retains a comfortable ride. My wife couldn't even tell the suspension was swapped.

But one definitely can tell with speed bumps and parking garages lol. The sport suspension is like a half inch drop which should alleviate some of that.

It's really not bad at all. We had the sport suspension on our B7, and it felt more bumpy than my current set up from what I remember. I actually swore I'd never get another sport suspension Audi after that. I quickly regretted that desicion once I bought my B8.
