    Buying a B8

    Hi everyone,

I am looking at buying a certified preowned B8 or a used B8.5.

Price range is more or less similar (12 B8 Prem at 28k vs 13 B8.5 Prem 26k) with similar KM (62k vs 55k) and features.

I know B8s have oil burning issues, which is why I am kid of more inclined to grab a certified pre owned.

    Warranty wise:

12 B8 has 1 year left of factory, then 2 more years of certified warranty.

13 B8.5 has 2 years left of factory.

The '12 and '13 model years should have had the oil consumption issue sorted out so it shouldn't be a concern. Personally I prefer the pre-FL styling and would go for as much warranty as you can.

oil issues only mainly effected 09-11 after that they were pretty much fixed...and most dealers will take care of it for you even if youre out of warranty...i would honestly go with whichever had the lowest miles and more features

Audi generally will goodwill the cost of fixing the oil consumption after 2 tests are done to prove the issue.
The 09-11 2.0 motors came with piston rings that were too large, it was corrected in 2012.

Why are ppl still concerned about oil consumption issues? Arent all dealers repairing the issues without cost to the owner unless if you are a total dick to them??

Not without upfront costs. My local dealer wanted $450 to do the Stage 1 and would only reimburse me if it failed. I tried getting AoA to help, but they didn't. I eventually sold the car and have learned that the subsequent owner, after getting the dealer that sold the car to him involved, is finally getting the local Audi dealer to waive the Stage 1 fee. Although most dealers will possibly take care of this, not all are doing so.

And even though I preferred my 2009 LED DRLs over the facelift A4's for the longest time, the 2013's DRL "tubes" are growing on me.... although I still prefer the newer A6 and A7 headlights/DRLs much more....

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but how do I know if I have an oil consumption issue? I have to top off my oil on my 2010 A4 about every 2-3 months (~2000-3000 miles).

Same here... I think they look meaner and cleaner than our eyelashes lights, although I think our lights still look better than all the rest of the other non Audi DRLs out there.

You would have to get measured and the results would have to follow within a range, a qt every 500-800mi would be an issue, every 2-3k you might have a slight issue and may get at least a stage 1 fix, I believe there is a class action lawsuit ... And stage 1fix/test is covered up to 8yr 80k ... Is what I believe was mentioned

Could you guys also tell me what the difference between these three b8s. They all look like Premiums to me, but I'm not sure.

Those all look like Premium Plus trim levels to me, or they at least have the optional HID lights. They're all very similar cars, I don't see any obvious reason why the prices should vary by that much.

I know Canada has different trim levels than us but yeah those are basically the same except the one with dial zone a/c.

Yeah. It is not a deal breaker for me. Neither are the rims. I am strongly considering the 49K KM one as it seems like the best bang for my buck.

Different dealers have different pricing strategies, especially when listing cars online. There's only 3k difference between the low and high price. The $27k one may be their firm/priced to sell price and the $30k one may be just a starting point for negotiations. You never know until you go look at each one and start negotiating from there.

For example, I bought a used Nissan Armada years ago. Sticker on the windsheild said $21900. I offered $16k. They countered with $16k plus tax, but I held firm. They accepted and I drove it home that day. It was so easy I actually left thinking I should have started lower LOL.
