What part of the ABS system should I replace?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Part of my ABS system went yesterday; I'm getting the ABS light, flashing brake light, and worn brake light in the display. Vag-Com won't connect to the ABS interface and I checked all the fuses and they are good. I have the Bosch 5.3 with ESP so it's not repairable. My question is do I replace the ABS pump or the module under the rear seat? I've read that the module usually goes but it seems that most people replace the pump.

    Thanks in advance,

Anyone? I looked at the wiring diagram and it seems like the control module.

If you can't comunicate with the ABS Module and the power and grounds have been checked then it's the module. The ABS Control module located on the pump, it is removable from the pump, The piece the connector attaches to is the module. This is from my experience, test everything before you take my advice.

hey ken lemme know if you wanna meet up i have a bba reman abs module you can swap in, or i can swap it in for ya. its really quick and simple - some people remove the washer tank and fender liner, but ive found you can just loosen the 13mm nut and slightly bend the brake lines up to change it, then gently bend the brake lines back down and reinstall the 13mm

Yes the black module bolted to the ABS valve block and motor will need to be replaced. I had the issue on mine and the module fixed it no questions. I believe that someone is repairing this modules now. I think maybe someone who has had that done can chime in on that and talk more about it. But I think that some of these modules can be repaired.

What are the part #s on the modules? From what i understand, the unit attached to the abs pump only contains solenoids and rarely fails, and the control module under the rear seat rarely fails as well since it was relocated to the interior. 8do 907 389 e is $1388 new at ecs, i am unaware of anyone who is able to rebuild them. Check out this thread also, he ended up finding a bad ground

The ABS module is under the hood, attached to the ABS pump, that thing with all the solenoids on it is the pump. The module attaches to it, has an electrical connector that connects to it. These guys can rebuild it, www.modulemaster.com/...

The wiring diagram backs this up:

J104 is under the rear seat and N55 is under the hood.

Thanks for the thread I'll definitely check the voltages.

I have the unrepairable unit as well :/ I've been trying to figure out how to get this fixed without dropping $1300. I swapped the module under the rear seat to make sure it wasn't that, and it wasn't. F'n Bosch 5.3 and ESP...

Next thing for you to do if ur fuse is good (#7 in the fuse box if i am not mistaken) is bridge pin 51 on the connector for the under seat module to a body ground, pin 28, and pin 29( with the ignition on) and see what you get and compare. Like i said earlier, the module rarely goes bad.

Did you guys look into used parts places that might have em? That would be my first stop since a new module is close to upgraded turbos money.

I'm borrowing a module for a friend to see if it is the module tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll start troubleshooting more.

I tried the other module and it still doesn't work. I measured the voltages and it was the same voltage (10.5v) as the ground issue guy had. I'll look into it when it's not snowing.

I've been really busy and haven't had a chance to look at it. I'm trying to find someone who has a 2001 s4 so I can try my module in their car.
