there are 4 different length ev14 injectors, 40mm, 48mm and 60mm and one with an extended tip.

The 'Standard' EV14 is appropriate for the S4 (for those curious, the 'Compact' EV14 is appropiate for the RS4), therefore a 48mm, o-ring to o-ring, should be used if the option is given.

Some companies sell the smaller ones with hats to extend them 8mm to fit correctly.
RIP Daz, you will be missed.

I am almost positive the standards are still too short. I had them; while they fit in the rail the o-ring just sits on on the plenum(when fully seated into the rail); the injector can be pushed down much further into the plenum(this is where the hat would come into play).

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

The overall injector height was roughly the same as factory but the bottom o-ring barely sat in the manifold. I'll post up some pics later tonight if I remember. We're picking up hats today.

Since you asked, I will correct you, you are wrong. There is no need for hats or fuel rail spacers or anything other than the factory clip when you use the standard length ev14s, unless you have a bent or broken parts.

    I endorse this message
There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Boom if that's the case why does this standard EV not sit high enough on the rail when FULLY seated into the plenum?

If I clip the injector into the rail first then bolt down the rail the o-ring isn't fully in the plenum, but it is enough to seal. So my thoughts are I need hats?

I've driven both my stage 3 cars without hats using standard ID or EV injectors. But I still believe they can be seated deeper into the plenum..rather then just barley sitting there.

What makes you think they are not fully seated? Do they leak when you boost leak test?

Shave the mounting point for the fuel rail down a hair if you reallllllly feel it is necessary.

I never said it didn't work the other way, I've ran both my cars w/o hats-I was just simply pointing out I think it would be better to run hats.

What makes me think they aren't fully seated is the fact that I can push them down into my plenum about another 1/4 inch when they aren't clipped into my rails. Do they leak when I boost leak, no..But is it proper? No.

That does not sound very scientific...

If they do not leak, then they are seated fully.
