Damn, I go on vacation for 3 days and the whole world collapses! :) LOL just kidding. Our customer service rep has been answering emails, but she leaves the highly-technical stuff to me or one of the other developers. Lemme address everything that was said here in the mean time:

Replied to your email yesterday and again just now. Yes, what you're seeing is normal - the parking brake does throw that code in some cases and all you need to do is clear it. I don't recommend driving the car in the state where the light on the button is blinking. But it sounds like you got it all sorted out, and ultimately, you were able to successfully change your brakes with Carista.
Before launching this functionality officially, we'll put together more detailed instructions inside the app that will assist users in cases like this. In fact, I just thought of an idea based on your feedback: why don't we include a button to just reset the EPB ECU's errors instead of checking and resetting all ECUs (and having to get out of the parking brake tool to do it)? Sounds like this would be useful.

Yes, after you get the light in the button itself to stop blinking, you may still have an error code. In that case, cycling the EPB on and off a few times and driving around may help get the car in a state where you can clear that code.

Yup :)

Yes, slim2fattycake did email us. I expect everyone else to do the same if they run into stuff that doesn't seem normal or intuitive to them, so we can fix it in the app or make better provisions for it (via instructions/explanations/etc.). Thanks for testing, guys!

I even deleted the app and reloaded it from the App Store.
I then broke out my ipad and tried with that (I have Carista on that too)... went right through no problem. The ipad is also running iOS 9.0... Curious...
Sounds like an email to Todor!!
I just saw your report through the app. It doesn't contain any technical info though, probably because you exited the app in-between experiencing the problem and sending the report. There's nothing different about the app on an iPhone vs. iPad... so it should work on both. The usual things to check are to make sure the ignition is fully on (2 clicks without your foot on the brake) and that the OBD adapter is firmly plugged in (sometimes it can be powered on, but the communication pins may not be making good contact). So yeah, please try again with the iPhone and if it fails again, go back to Carista's main screen, open the slide-out menu and use the "Report a problem" function to send a report. Thanks.

...and I'd rather it stay that way!
Yup, the EPB tool will require separate payment, but during the beta-testing period, everyone is welcome to use it for free. Just email us at
[email protected] and we'll hook you up - either for Android or for iOS.

The EPB tool was temporarily removed from the iOS beta, but will be re-added within a few days, as we're about to release version 2.4 (without tools) today.

This would come in handy to see how many you have accumulated, and if you're looking for a CPO S4, how many the previous owner put on!!

Yeah, someone did ask that! And I agree it would be a useful thing to have. We'll look into it, but don't expect it to appear in the app immediately. Sounds doable though.
