I'm a little confused about what this product is. The thread is saying OEM rear view camera, but it sounds like this is a non-OEM part being discussed.

I was expecting that this would look and operate just as a vehicle that came with a camera from the factory. Is that the case here?

I've got a 2012 Audi w/ Concert radio that is more than just the red LCD screen--it appears to be full color.

Where do you store this unit? In the glove box? it plugs into the CANBUS and the radio, and then a rear-view camera plugs into the unit. When I reverse the camera displays on the Radio LCD screen? Not some 3rd party screen that I have installed, right?

$<300 for rear view camera seems to good to be true!

Yeah, you'd be using your stock display. From the looks of the length of cords, I'd think this would just tuck in with the stock head unit.

Correct. You would install this unit behind the OEM stereo, it is a plug-in module that interfaces with the stock radio/screen. You would install the rear view camera (wired to +12v power) along with a signal wire (for detecting reverse from the brake light) and a video input wire that plugs into the module.

What are the chances there is an wiring harness already in place for the camera? Located in the trunk area. I think a lot of the time they just use the same harness in every car, and if the device isn't needed, the connector just doesn't get used.

i had a auto electrician fit my XCL with me, worth the extra €'s to have a prof do it and if there is a problem you can go straight back. It was a mighty process installing these camera and module, a lot of parts are coming off to install it, especially for avant owners, the boot internal cover is hard to remove with out proper tools, half the dash is off to wire it in, and other interior bits to thread the cables, i would also recommend getting a noise filter too.

This is what I am talking about. Allot of disassembling and because the interior trim pieces are plastic, they are easily scratched. You want to take your time or have a professional that is willing to be patient.

Correct, just got my XCL professionally installed, factory harness, cable ties, etc. Very oem and clean install but time consuming taking it all apart carefully.

I would as you dont want to be taking it all apart to fit one, they are cheap and easy to place in the line

If you are talking about where its mounted, I believe it replaces the truck handle/release. The new one is built into that.

Sorry but i may hold off until someone gets it installed and posts a review. Im not a wiring expert by any means and im hesitant to rip apart my dash without solid evidence that it works flawlessly

This is not a group buy anymore! I talk to the supplier and they can give the price to everyone. It actually works out to be cheaper because it is shipped directly to your house.
Note for Canadian customers Exchange rate today is 1.19CND=USD. Our currency is taking a big DUMP because of the price of oil.
