FYI, see below comparison photos to see how it looks different from the stock 4300K (from our previous test)
There were rumors that X-tremeVision bulb gets whiter and brighter after 200 hrs of use.
To find out if it's a rumor or truth, we ran a test by having a X-tremeVision bulb stay lit for 9 days (9 days x 24 hrs = 216 hrs).

Conclusion: It's not a rumor anymore. It has been confirmed. X-tremeVision bulb gives whiter and brighter light compared to the stock 4300K bulb from the beginning and it gets even better as it goes through break-in process.
We're very satisfied with the result after 216 hrs of use.

We took a few comparison photos showing stock Philips 4300K D2S(lower), new Philips X-tremeVision D2S (middle), and color-shifted Philips X-tremeVision D2S w/220 hrs use (upper) to show you the difference in lighting output and color.
The photos have not been photoshopped and untouched except for our log being added.

Although we tried to take good photos, it is not easy to take photo of lighting.
The result is that stock 4300K is noticeably yellower and dimmer than X-tremeVision bulb and the color-shifted X-tremeVision bulb is much whiter with crisp white.

For now, we are showing two photos through projectors. We will soon upload comparison photos on a vehicle as well.
    Thanks for reading!

So the bottom of the picture are audi OEM bulbs? I'm pretty sure mine are original from 2001, color and light output are less than stellar I'm wondering if new bulbs would help

The bottom of the photo is the stock 4300K D2S that your 2001 came with.
Here's an explanation to symptom you see.
All HID lights do discolor to become bluer and whiter as more usage applies. At the same time, the brightness decreases and so visibility gets worse.
When you put a new set of stock 4300K D2S bulbs in, you should see things better than now although the color would be less white than what you currently have.
X-tremeVision would be a good option for you since you need to change bulbs anyways, why not grabbing a set that has even more brightness added to it as well as better color while they are priced at far less than reasonable? :D

Usually, people end up with bulb failure issue after about 5-6 years of use. If your lights are original that came with the ride, either you've been very lucky or you probably don't drive much.

Two of AZ members who ordered these X-tremeVision bulbs, installed them and took good comparison photos.

I couldn't pass up this deal, thanks Mike :-) I'll try to snap off some before and after photos on my normal back country Vermont rallye road, right in front of my house! The best test is on wet dark roads, but has been in the low teens lately with snow. This will be on my 2002 C5 S6 Avant with stock original re-finished polished lights. My plan is this spring to install new EVOX-R lenses, reflectors and also have these new bulbs. For the rest of this winter, new bulbs will have to do.

    Awesome!
Please note that if you compare new XV bulb to your original old bulb, your old bulb would look better in color (color shifted over 12 years if they are original came with the car) but brightness would be clearly noticeable. :D

Thanks for the HID bulbs Mike!

2002 Audi S6 Avant 4.2 Liter V8 with bi-xenon lights. Headlights have been polished and are in good condition. Photos were taken several days apart, so as you can see the conditions on the road have changed a little. Shot with iPhone 5 holding on steering wheel. The difference is totally amazing, I don't have to drive with my fog lights on anymore
