alarm horn.....not plug and play?

Hey guys...

My original alarm horn ( http://www.wak-tt.com/ttalarm/DSCN2223.JPG ) has been corroded by the batteries and not working anymore.

so I went on ebay and found this alarm horn that was suppose to be from a 04 a4. ( http://www.dewsburyautodismantlers.c.../image_197.jpg )

put it in and it didnt work...my friend tried vagcom to test it and apparently there wasn't signal coming from the siren..

any thoughts AZers?

i dont think so but it was working ..well kinda, because the horn would randomly go off so..

I would double check the alarm fuse to make sure it is good.. If that's not it hopefully you don't have a problem with the CCM.

friend says it is working because the fuse and the lights are on the same fuse... I can still lock and unlock the car, and the little red light still blinks when car is locked..just no beeping sound

People have done it.. But it is not that simple. You would have to cut the alarm horn open and do some modifications cause you cant just buy these batteries.

Yes. The link krew53 posted is what people in the UK do, with materials bought from the UK.

There was a write-up or something here, that described how a guy did it here, with stuff easily purchasable here, and it looked better. IDK where it is. I think he made it to accept any regular old AA batteries.

krew53 is right. That link was my inspiration. I removed the batteries (just starting to leak) then went one better and mounted a battery holder under the removable stowage box on the left side of the trunk. Pics here: siren batteries.

If you get that far, clean the corrosion off the siren board with an acid, like lemon juice.

Stock configuration: Two 3.6-V batteries in series = 7.2 V.
I converted to six 1.2-V batteries in series = 7.2 V.

Battery holder, part number SBH361A-ND, $2.40
NiMH battery, part number N703-ND, $4.40

I did a swap in my car using the units you have I went from one style to the newer and it worked but I also have a newer CCM for my B7 keys. So for whatever that's worth could be why yours isn't working but I can't say for sure just a guess.

Why did you get a newer CCM?
I got a B7 A4 315mhz key for cheap. I destroyed my already broken B6 key. I swapped over the key-blade and chip, and it works the same. That's it. I didn't need to do any coding - nothing. The dang red alarm button fell off though, I should've gotten a silicone cover or something.

Because I have a 2002 and you have to get a newer style CCM to upgrade to B7 key. Yeah one of my red buttons fell off too was gonna try a wrecking yard see if they would sell me one.

I have done the battery mod for three b6's. It does require cutting the box open, soldering, and plastic welding back together. I've had no issues with the finished product. What I like most about doing it this way, is the batteries are brand new withing spending 300+ at the stealership.

I can do a few of these for anyone looking for one for a small fee.

well i spent over 100 on that one... so it might be battery in the new one is also corroded? maybe i'll let 2clean to fix it for me lol, what should i do guys.. get a new one or fix that one i got off ebay?

I've been in the same position you were. I've actually purchased 2 of these sirens from scrap cars only to find out later that the batteries are dead. These things are coming up to 10yrs old. It really doesn't make sense buying them used unless they are from a low mileage b7 or b8 Audi. I figured replacing the battery or buying new was the only option that makes sense.

If I we're in your position I'd contact the seller on eBay advising that the siren doesn't work. If he/she doesn't reply or refusing to help, open a dispute with eBay. They're good with resolving or getting your money back in a couple weeks.

I followed the repair process in the link below. Only I cut and resealed the box a lot more neat and evenly.

I've done the repair on 3 different sirens 6 months ago all with no problems. I'm in Toronto Canada but can work out something to ship a repaired one.

The battery voltage is critical, the capacity not so much. Those at the link are the same batteries. Wire was 16 AWG (overkill). I also replaced about two feet of the brown wire coming out of the siren 3-wire connector. The strands in that wire were corroded back that far into the harness.

My alarm is in its way out. It only chirps every once in a while now. So I'm assuming the batteries are dead/dying. I'll have to open it up and take a look to be sure though.

Just to let you guys know, before I had the chance to buy the parts listed to "fix" my dying alarm, my car battery went bad. I had been having trouble starting my car in the cold mornings and took it to get tested. The guys at Auto Zone couldn't even get a reading from my battery (that's really bad) and I told them I would replace the battery the next day (to their horrified faces haha). Anyway, I picked up a nice Group 49 Diehard AGM from Sears and my alarm issues were "fixed"! My alarm chirps again! I hadn't even noticed that my alarm stopped working around the same time that the auto level motors stopped working in my headlights. I'm assuming the lack of charge in the battery sacrificed some electrical components to conserve battery power? I thought I was imagining having my lights do the "up / down" test when I turned my lights on in the past. Weird! Anyway, this is a great tutorial that will (eventually) help me when my car alarm finally goes bad.
