I think I’m just going to swap my mufflers.

I think I’m going to swap my 2 rear mufflers, seams like an expensive option. I know there are some clips of muffler deletes and x pipes, but I haven’t found any of just the mufflers. That’s either because no one liked the sound or no one bothered to take video of the set up.

I figured I’d try something different and swap some flowmaster super 40’s and some dual tips. Any suggestions? Any good places to by exhaust tips from?

I just can’t see spending $1500 on a few pipes when 2 mufflers, 2 tips, and installation should run about $500. Neither will get more hp.

I didn't do a dyno but my wife and I agree we felt more power after doing a cat-back system.

Might be a smart, inexpensive option. I also could not see spending $1,500 or more on an exhaust and went with a Magnaflow non-res x-pipe in place of my center resonator. This is something at least one other on here has done (HazeMyth). I'm happy with the results, especially since it cost me about $225 total for parts & labor. Doing mufflers will be a bit more expensive than that and will achieve different results, but shouldn't be too bad.

I've had my exhaust mod for a few months now. It is quiet at all cruising speeds. If you need to accelerate, you definitely hear it more than stock, even if you just need to add more throttle to maintain speed while going up a hill. My test is whether or not my wife complains. She doesn't, so it certainly isn't bad. I do really like the sound when pressing the car hard. It's deeper than stock and pretty much any aftermarket exhaust I've heard. As I said, I'm happy with the results.

My only suggestion is to consider different types of mufflers. FlowMaster, Magnaflow, Borla, etc. They'll each provide a different sound.

Judging by your picture you have a 3.0T? I've got a 4.2L V8, and do have videos of just a rear muffler delete. But that doesn't do much good if you're using a different engine.

I’ve heard a muffler delete on the 3.0t before and I didn’t love it. Sounded to loud and the wrong loud. I’m hoping the replacement of the mufflers with a more aggressive muffler will get me a good tone.

Just ordered them today, guess we will see.

I changed the rear resonators on my A7 3.0T with the S7 sport mufflers and found exactly what I was looking for. Not noticeable until you get on it. My wife doesn't complain! Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised.

I’m hoping for the best. Anyone one know what size our factory pipes are?

Haze I'm not correcting you to be a prick, but because this has caused me problems in the past.

Technically its 60mm diameter. Being Merica though, 2.25" is plenty available and can line up easily. If youre fabricating to factory exhaust though, angles and bends can be cumbersome and may need some extra pie cuts.

Thanks SSSS5, I’m having a shop connect the exhaust as it’s outside what I can do at home. I was measuring the current muffler and it’s quite short. I may have to go with a very short muffler, and hoping that won’t be too much.

I only measure in Freedom Units.

If the Flowmasters are too long, look at Magnaflow. Pretty sure they have short ones. You'll also need to install new exhaust tips. Since a shop is doing the work, 2.25" will work just fine, as that's what the diameter of my x-pipe is and there were no issues with the install.
