    B8.5 GIAC Stage 1 E85 1/4 Mile Results..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I had a chance to take my girls car to Atco tonight for a few runs. Conditions were pretty good and surprisingly track was pretty busy. Was able to get only 2 runs in after the 4 hour trip but was pretty happy with the results..

2014 A4 Premium 2.0T Quattro with the 18s.. Car is completely bone stock besides the tune down to the paper air filter. I'm 250lbs also. Temp was hovering around 45 degrees and DA was -1000.

Car had 3/4 tank of Sunocco E85 in tank. Full weight including the spare and tools as well.

I launched the car around 2800rpm by power-braking it. ESP/ASR off and in S mode auto shifting.

    Best run was [email protected]..

Honestly I think with a high flow cat, catback and intake the car in perfect conditions can do 13.3-13.4 which I find pretty impressive.

Not bad but honestly, with E85, the 8 speed TIP and favourable DA I would expect just "slightly" better. My Stage 2 Avant with 6 speed tip on 93 octane was ~13.6@100.

No offense, you had Stage 2, High Flow Cat, Catback, Intake, Front Mount Intercooler and LW wheels..

This car was is 100% bone stock besides the software and did a [email protected] compared to your [email protected].

Basically all your mods gave you ~.23s and ~1.8mph.. I was on the pump file with E85 in the tank. Basically it's a flex fuel car and functions just like stock the GIAC flash. It senses E85 and makes it's adjustments. According the GIAC I can run the race file also for a more aggressive 100% E85 file but I haven't had a chance to log both and see the difference.

Haha, why would I be offended? All I was saying was that with an E85 tune and the 8 speed transmission I figured you would be faster. You didn't mention what "mode" you were in. I would have assumed if you were 100% E85 you would have used the mode that gave you the best performance.

I'm not competing I was giving you a baseline. However, if you want to throw out facts, I'm on a significantly slower transmission and a heavier Avant. The wheels would be a benefit but you are using 18's which aren't bad. The catback does nothing but the HFC would help. The upgraded FMIC is no benefit in a 1/4 mile race unless you are hot lapping repeatedly and its been proven that stock intakes are great; Upgrades don't do much, at least on 2.0. Also, my time was a few years ago when the B8 APR V1 stage 2 tuning was tame compared to what is being programmed today.

Apr claims Crank hp/ tq on stage 1 is 284/334 on 93 octane. What is it for GIAC. See the WHP estimates but in an Apples to apples conversion what would that be?

AWE mustang dyno charts suggest 306HP for GIAC Stage 1 B8. They got 245WHP on 93 octane with their catback and FMIC, no HFC. I think I have an equivalent setup with the addition of a high flow cat and improved intake. Want to get it on a DYNO in the next couple of months to see if, based on math, I could really be 315+. I also have some friends in town with S4s that I could pull against.

At first, I wasn't sure about the GIAC tune, but after adding a better FMIC, changing my fuel filter, and putting in new iridium plugs I am a huge fan.

Wait GIAC stage 1 is 306hp at the crank on 93 octane? Shame they don't have a stage 2 file for my test pipe. I'd go try it haha

Have you checked with Austin or Alex at GIAC to be sure? I think they do have a Stage 2 file that can clear the CEL. They don't advertise well but write a mean tune.

I hope to trap >95mph this weekend @ Etown for Show and go. All I have is a tune running a 93 file. We shall see!

What I would give anything to see is a back to back test where somebody took their B8.5 and sampled APR stage 2, Revo Stage 2, GIAC stage 2 (if it exists), and Uni Stage 2. All of 93. Driving impressions, 0-30, 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, and a dyno pull. I would actually pay money to see that.

I actually messaged him yesterday to ask about their tunes. I need to directly ask about the stage 2 file. I also messaged Chris at Revo about theirs. I'd love to trial them all

Yep I'm keeping the Allroad. I forgot that MA has a terrible 6.25% sales tax (I'm NH raised where there is no tax) so it would cost me thousands in tax to get the S3... screw that)

Cool. There is something fun about having a car that is sort of a sleeper. With an S3, people expect you to be fast but you can surprise someone with a nicely done A4.

Just checked what mine would be, 8.4%. Here, it is applied to the difference between the trade in / sale of your old car and the price of the new one. So, if I sold my car for $15K and bought a different one for $31K, would only pay tax on the $16. Not sure if that is common practice.

In Mass if I bought a 50k S3 and traded my Allroad for 27k, I would apparently pay 6.25% on the 50k which is $3,125 in sales tax... We also have a dreadful thing called "excise tax". Ever year the state charges you a certain % of the remaining value of your car. This year I paid over $500 bucks on this annual tax... I really hope our new republican puts an end to some of this nonsense.

That's how it is in NJ too. This can save you over $1000 depending on the the trade and price of the new car. I've done this in a past to save the hassle of selling privately just to net an extra $500-$700.

From my experience the major tuners have all been in the same ballpark regarding tunes.

APR's site claims 284chp and 244awhp. Someone mentioned GIAC dynoed 245awhp, but claims 306chp?

So one of the companies claimed crank power is wrong since both tunes seem to put down similar numbers. (Dynos do vary so its still not a perfect science.)

In MA, you would only pay sales tax on the $23,000 difference. See http://goo.gl/wKyXcA
