Which vag-com to get?

Hi, I am a new audi owner and I don't think I can live without vag. Any recommendations on which one works the best and/or is cheapest? I have seen the system for sale on the web for under $40... Will these cheap systems do everything the more expensive systems do? Thank you very much for your advise!

Hey Chris, welcome to the Audi world.

The best option is the genuine RossTech HEX-USB+CAN cable. It is not the cheapest option by any means, but they do hold their value very well so you'll get most of your money back when you sell the cable in the future. You may also be able to find someone who is selling their used one.

The knockoff eBay cords will work but are sometimes iffy and do not come with a VCDS license, so you'll need to buy that for $100 on top of the cable price. There are also several limitations, even with the registered verison of VCDS Lite.

Glad I came across this. If I were to download the free version of vcds lite using my old ebay cable, would i atleast have the option of changing the up down feature of the windows and change my car to rest of world to run the fogs and parking lights mod on my b7 and turn on the hid setting on my touareg since it came with halogen and the drl really mess with the aftermarket hid. I'm not necessarily looking to run any logs on the car at the moment. Just want the conveniences I had on my old car.

I believe you need the registered version of VCDS Lite to do that ($99 license).

There may be cracked full versions of VCDS available on the web as well, although I don't condone use of such programs.

I use this one. 100% works flawless except there are some newer software versions out now. I have not tried to update it since I do not want to risk my cable not working in the future.
