Rear differential info.

I have 03 A4 manual trans 5speed. 1.8. Which differential do I need? Can it be from a automatic?

1.8t manual (5 speed): 3.89:1
1.8t/3.0 auto: 4.11:1
3.0 manual (6 speed): 4.11:1
1.8t manual (6 speed): 4.11:1

The PN for the 3.89:1 that you need is: 01R500044A

They are a little tough to find. Lots of 4.11:1's out there, but not a lot of 3.89:1. In fact, I bought the last 2 "reasonably" priced ones off eBay within the last couple months.

Also, be weary of eBay. Some people say they are that part number, but they came off a 6 speed/auto car... I would make sure they say it came off a b6 5 speed manual, and be able to confirm the part number.

Not a bad idea to have the seller verify the ratio by counting turns as well..

3.0 with 02x is 3.89 as well as B7 2.0t 6mt. I believe the 3.0 01e were the 4.11 final drive.
